LBJ thought he lost 10 states and RFK thought it was 3. He actually lost 6; the ones he mentioned. He won Wyoming and South Dakota.

Lbj was a little pessimistic there. He only lost 5 of the deep south states and goldwater's home state

Although these two men notoriously and allegedly hated one another, there is no evidence of it in this telephone conversation. Moreover, Johnson's supposed resentment of Kennedy's failure to acknowledge his contributions to the new Senator's victory is hardly evident in this discussion between the two men. In fact, Kennedy acknowledges that Johnson's campaign appearances on his behalf "made a hell of a difference." Finally, Robert Kennedy does not sound like a man who thinks that Lyndon Johnson orchestrated the assassination of his brother, despite how popular this theory has become. It astounds me that more than 50 years after John F. Kennedy's death that there are still so many conflicting and unsubstantiated hypotheses regarding who organized and executed his murder.
