I’m surprised you didn’t mention The Fall! Their influence is super audible in LCD’s early stuff, especially some of the vocals

To think that I'm already a fan of your videos and then get a video.. no, THREE videos, dealing with the band responsible for my favorite album of all time (and also probably my second favorite band, like generally)! I am joyously looking forward to the series!

Don't know about diagnosing the soundystem part of the name, but LCD Soundsystem stands for Liquid Christmas Display Soundsystem, since the bands first outing was as a Liquid Liquid cover band at a christmas party.

Love the video, great work, thorough and comprehensive. May I ask, what software did you use to make it?

I'm surprised that you as a LCD Soundsystem expert have not mentioned John Cale as a big influence on James Murphy and LCD Soundsystem. After all, All My Friends is a hommage to the Welsh Wizard, reinterpretating Cale's repetetive piano clusters, which definded the Velvets songs I'm Waiting For The Man or All Tomorrow's Parties. Cale's implentation of Avantgarde elements such as the drone or the repetetive piano hammering have influenced so many other musicians and their songs: The Jesus And Mary Chain or Spacemen 3 for their screeching guitars, The Stooges I Wanna Be Your Dog (Cale himself playing the piano and sleighbells), Roxy Music (Do The Strand, Virginia Plain), Bowie (Heroes) or even QOTSA (Go With The Fiow) and plenty more have used Cale's musical ideas for inspiration. Murphy got Franz Ferdinand and John Cale to do covers of All My Friends and Murphy even plays bass on Cale's version. There is an interesting article from the Guardian online, with both Cale and Murphy talking about their experiences as musicians and producers. Worth reading!

I can see the Basic Channel influence, but it feels a bit weird to point that out without mentioning the Detroit techno that's specifically shouted out in the lyrics. Personally, I think the influence of first wave Detroit techno and even second wave (like Underground Resistance) is even more clear than the German influence.

I 've always felt like LCD would be my favorite band if they were better at cutting down their songs. most of the times I hear them I think "This is a great song, I Wish they cut those last 3 minutes or so". Then again its been a long time since I've last tried listening to this band. Maybe it will click with me this time.

Last 2 min are important. I really hope people can get passed this cynical viewpoint of disqualifying artists for "wearing their influences on their sleeves". I do feel like we've made progress with that in 10 years, partially thanks to Fantano a bit. He tends to not care too hard about that when the personality, passion and genuineness shines thru. But really, when I think about it, I do feel like that cynical point of view is usually thrown at artists from other struggling artists. It can be difficult to have worked years on art and not find success and someone quickly dashes thru with ease whether its talent, marketing, luck, connections etc. Can lead down a really hateful path. I've seen it happen with a lot of rock / metal / prog musicians who couldn't stand the indie craze of the 2010's. I love that LCD took The Pool's song Jamaica Running and spun it into Dance Yrself Clean. It's a clear stolen rip off, but done so well.

Is it okay if you make a LGYI video about King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard? I listened to Infest The Rats' Nest but im too scared to listen to their other albums, seeing as the friend that got me into them says that "all of their albums are good", i have autism so i really just listen to albums that i think are the greatest in an artist's discography (yes, ik that sounds pretentious, just bear with me) and im really struggling with KGaTLW. On that note, could you also make a video about I.C.P. and David Bowie? Btw i just wanna say your swans video was INSANELY helpful, so thank you for that!!! :3 /gen /vvvpos
