Come on Glock, make a G42 with a 10 or 12 round flush fit magazine. You could call it the 42X.

I'm going to guess you mean a double stack micro compact. Glock already makes at least 2 double stack 380s in the style of the 26 and 17, but they are just not available in the states. I'd settle for the 380 version of the 26, but I'd for sure like anybody who currently makes a micro double stack 9mm to do a micro double stack 380 in whatever they currently offer.
@whoknows86783 жыл бұрын
Nah, a 42X would be just like the 43X. Glock would take the easiest and least effort way out and just make the grip longer. That's what they did with the 43X after SIG spanked their ass later with the smaller and higher capacity P365. To get the same 10rd capacity, Glock just made the grip and mag longer and shit out the 43X. Real innovative...not...

I can buy a Glock 42 for $349 right now and I looked at them and thought they were great initially but they are a little too big for pocket carry. I just went out and got a LCP Max because that's what I like to pocket carry and I got a j&j leather wallet holster which conceals it very nicely in my front pocket. Previously I've been carrying a Kel-Tec P3AT for over 10 years and it served me well, so much so that I still have it. My sentiment is that the best pistol is the one that you have with you all of the time. I've got a glock 43x that sits home because I don't like to carry on my waistband either inside or outside. The Ruger LCP Max is almost the same dimensions as my Kel-Tec and just a bit heavier but it pocket carries very well. 👍

I carry my G42 everyday. It has night sights and Pierce Grips plus one extension so it holds eight total. However, G42 mags are very small and an extra mag fits neatly in the coin pocket of my jeans. I do like the LCP Max and will certainly buy one. I’ve been very happy with my G42.

The G42 is one when I got it years ago I wanted to hate it. I used to shit on Glocks like people shit on high point. I finally decided that with as much shit as I talked I needed to at least buy one so I had some reference point when arguing with people on the internet. So I buy one on sale for like $399. Shortly before I had bought a Ruger LCR 22WMR. We go to range all giddy. Not only is it new gun weekend, but its double word score two new gun weekend. I thought the LCR was going to be the bee's knees. I'm a fan of 22WMR, and had visions of this LCR being my version of the noisy cricket. I have a Automag II, which is both epic loud and has epic muzzle flash, so I thought how could this LCR not be at least as good in that regard. Boy was I wrong. Not only was it epic let down in both the loudness and the muzzle flash dept, but it also had what I consider the worlds worst trigger. I wanted to love that gun, and it ended up in the hate bucket. As fate would have it we then shoot the G42, and not only does it work, but i'll be damned but I kinda like it. One thing I really liked on that hateful LCR was the hogue grip, so I go home from the range and see if maybe I can get a hogue grip for the G42, and it turned out I could. The rest is history. Now we're like PB&J, only with some nice night sights and that hogue grip. Best $399 I've spent so far.

I own both. But I’m much more accurate with the Glock and I too much rather shoot the Glock than the LCP Max at the range. I also prefer carrying the Glock 42 over my new Max gun. 6+1 plus two spare magazines in the pocket doesn’t bother me at all. Also, Glock did have some design issues with the first batches of 42’s that initially came out. Since 2018, they have redesigned some internal parts and resolved the issues of subsequent guns. I have two post 2018 models and love them! They’ve never failed and I’ve fed them both close to 2,000 rounds each! Here’s an abbreviated article I wrote for a law enforcement magazine a while back, listing the changes Glock made in the newer 42’s: Glock 42 improved factory changes: As of late 2018, G42 redesigned magazines are now series “03.” Also, the newer G42’s (late 2018) have changed the internals with newly redesigned parts that gave some users reliability “issues.” Specifically three components have been redesigned: First is the biggest culprit that gave most of the problems with the 42 and that is the slide stop. It’s been redesigned not to physically make contact with the bullet protruding forward, beyond the top forward lip of the magazine. The older design was actually touching the tip of a bullet in the magazine and that caused huge feeding and reliability problems with the weapon. On the new slide stop part, it is stamped with an added “-1,” immediately following the part number engraved on it. Second is the trigger mechanism housing (TMH), which also now has the “-1” designator stamped on it adjacent to the part number as well. Last is the frame of the gun next to the trigger, which also has a “1” stamped into it, indicating the latest slightly redesigned internals of the frame. These are the changes one can actually see upon close inspection of a disassembled G42. Glock added this stamped numbering reference into the actual named above parts with all of the the latest redesigned G42 model from the factory. I looked for these changes at my FFL dealer when I bought my newest (2019) G42’s. You can see the “1” stamped on the right side of the frame looking down by where the trigger bar connects to the trigger mechanism. The other parts can’t be viewed so easily unless you fully disassemble the gun beyond “field stripping.” But no dealer will allow you to do that. If your new 42 comes with the “03” stamped magazines (back of the mag near the bottom of the bullet “windows”), you’ll know you have the latest and redesigned G42. The LATEST model Glock 42’s eat all the ammo you feed through it and without a hitch. However theres always one caveat where that occasional “lemon” is still produced for some reason or another and no matter the product (car, boat, tools, appliance, firearm). This is why I NEVER buy the first year model of “anything.” I always wait a year or two for the bugs to get worked out. Whether it be new cars, to new electronics to new guns, one should always WAIT a while before buying a brand new model and until the factory can work out some minor design flaw issues. In conclusion, the newest G42’s on dealer shelves these days are “nearly” flawless in form, function and reliability (with new quality factory ammo). I say “nearly” because I’ve never ever seen a small pocket semi-auto gun in .380, nor any caliber for that matter, that doesn’t have an occasional quirk of a malfunction. If you’re still experiencing issues with your 42, and you’ve switched ammo and magazines to no avail, then I’d send the gun and all the magazines back to Glock. Include a letter explaining the issue. Be forewarned that if you have ANY aftermarket parts in either the gun or factory magazines, Glock removes them and won’t send them back with your firearms. That’s just the way they do things. With that said, I trust my life and my daughter’s life (she has a CCW) with the newer production Glock 42. For what it’s worth, I have an extensive gun collection and I’ve been carrying off-duty concealed now for 29 years and still doing it. The G42 has a place in my rotation for deep concealment purposes and I’d go anywhere with it. Now the .380 bullet itself is an entirely different story for another time. Yes, there is “better” than .380, but when I put two in the heart and one in the head of a bad guy, is it really going to matter what caliber was used at that point?

Lots of good info there to keep an eye out for when buying used ones. Thanks for sharing that. Mine is one that looks to be version 2, which makes sense given when I bought it versus when they introduced those updates, and why mine has worked flawlessly. Great little gun. One thing I'll mention that is different from your experience is the places I buy used guns at have let me field strip a gun, and at least half will do it for me if I'm curious about the guts before opening my wallet because they know they have a good product and if I'm to that point odds are better than good they made a sale. Maybe its because I do the gun store circuit every weekend looking for deals and gun gossip, but I'm not sure of any stores around me that wouldn't let me do so. Maybe its a regional/regular customer thing. And while I'll agree first year guns have first year gun problems, I wouldn't avoid them across the board. Obviously I didn't. I bought the LCP Max the day it hit stores. Good little gun. Not perfect. Few things ever come close. As far as carry guns go, I'd say the same thing about a year one release gun that I would about a design that's be out 30 years or 130 years- shoot it enough with your carry ammo first to verify the gun is reliable with that ammo, and you are comfortable and confident enough in the gun to be as proficient as possible. The LCP Max II that eventually comes out will probably have something like an updated finish along with a marketing buzz word to try and get existing owners to "upgrade," while also luring in new customers. For as long as these little pocket CC guns are popular again they'll regularly churn out new versions and models. If its not the LCP Max II it will be something like the LCP Ultra or whatever the next buzz word is for a optics ready model, and then maybe a Ultra Competition, featuring a longer barrel with patented "anti-snap" compensator. If ruger steals that name and product idea I hope I get a shout out in the launch video.

I don’t own a Glock 42 and haven’t given it any consideration, but I was extremely impressed with a friend’s G42 that I shot once one handed. It has like shooting a 22 LR pistol. There is just something special about this little pistol that is the perfect match for the 380 round. If they updated it with an optics cut I couldn’t think twice about purchasing one despite its ugly looks. You got me excited about this pistol again, especially with long distance shot placements that you claim.
@Th3BaconNation3 жыл бұрын
I mentioned recently in another comment that when I bought the G42 years ago I wanted to hate it. It continues to impress me and long ago exceeded the expectations I had. I hadn't thought of an optic cut version, probably since I only got my first optics pistol 2 weeks ago. Now that you mention it, if there was one I'd definitely buy it. A year and a half ago when we were forced to find some alternative safe shooting locations to continue enjoying our favorite sport, instead of being limited to a max 50 yard pistol shot due to my local range's setup, we found a spot where we could do quite a bit longer shots in general. So when we setup a 22 steel challenge course at 75-150 yards one day, at the end of the day I said I wanted to try a hicock45/honest outlaw style long distance pistol steel target shot with my carry gun, which happened to be the G42. I hit the 75 yard target right off, and over the next few weekends ended the days doing longer shots. For years I always thought I'd have to aim way up on a target at distance with a handgun, and after a certain distance the bullets would just randomly zig off at a 90 degree angle or whatever because that's what happens in the movies. Turns out reality is way different than the movies, and I was way wrong. When I started aiming at them no different than I would when they're 5 yards away, out to distances way beyond what I anticipated, I was still on target. And to be fair, the G42 is not the only gun I have experienced this with, it is just the one I shoot the best which is why I have on me whenever we're shooting rifles or whatever at ranges where I have targets setup past 100 yards, or any other time we get the hankering for a random pistol shooting challenge. It is also worth mentioning that I am in no way an expert. I am just a recreational paper and steel target shooter, and all my experiences are based on shooting at indoor ranges and outdoors under controlled conditions of the four seasons of middle-America.

I wonder why Glock won't try their hand at a true double-stack micro-380. Hell, even their version of a micro-9 doesn't appear to be that small.
@Th3BaconNation3 жыл бұрын
I know outside the US in some places people can get the G25 and G28, which are to my understanding 380 versions of the 19 and 26. I've always wanted a 28. I like the idea of a doublestack 380 in that size. I couldn't begin to speculate on why they don't have something smaller than the 42. Seems to me, in the US anyway, currently 380 has a "too small/underpowered" reputation at the moment, and 9mm seems to be more desirable to the consumer. I prefer the more mild to shoot recoil of 380 in a pocket or small sub-compact gun, but my preferences probably are out of sync with the mainstream.
@saltwatersaddletramp72293 жыл бұрын
Glock mags with the polymer wrapped around the steel are very thick. That would make it hard to make a double stack and keep the size down. Shield Arms made the 15 round mag for the 43X partially by removing the polymer shell and reducing the thickness. The advantage to Glock mags is that they are certainly one of the most durable auto loading mags ever made.

Because Glock doesn't spend much on R&D. They found much better returns investing in marketing. Glock perfection is a marketing campaign. They used marketing to spin their lack of safety as the safety is between your ears. People still drink it up despite numerous lawsuits from people with holes in their legs. They won't come out with their own version until the LCP max starts hurting their bottom line. And then I will bet that they have problems for a few years while they leverage their marketing for damage control. But I will say that outside the safety issue, the firearms they offer that don't advance the platforms technologically are very solid entries. Just don't expect much innovation.

The Glock is a bit too large for most people to comfortably pocket carry, while the LCP Max fits even blue jeans pockets with room to draw them when needed. If I have to carry the pistol in a holster on (or inside) my waistband, it might as well be a more powerful round than a .380. The biggest selling point for the Max over the LCP II isn't the capacity, but the visible sights.
@Th3BaconNation3 жыл бұрын
I'd tend to agree to a point. I can pocket carry my G42 in the "relaxed/loose fit" jeans in a pocket, but that's on a good day. The LCP/LCP Max is definitely more concealable in that regard. The max definitely has better sights over things like the original LCP. I don't have a LCP 2, but I suspect that it beats that as well. My G42 has very similar sights, but I find the shorter sight radius on the Max make it a step down from the G42 in that regard. However, since its not really a long range target gun, that step down is more like a pseudo step. It is more than capable within what I'd consider its intended range, in my not an expert opinion. I can hit targets from much further out with my G42, but if we keep things in context of intended use the LCP Max is certainly a formidable choice at 380 with its combination of decent night sights and capacity advantage at that size/caliber.

Thank you for the video. I own both firearms definitely no regrets on either purchase, just my opinion not here to change anyone’s mind but I think the Glock 42 has more room for error especially for beginners where the LCP Max is more for people that have a bit more experience. both hide well in the pocket for the G42 I have a Vedder pocket holster and for the LCP Max I use a Sticky holster (made for the G42 ) I put a small piece of rag inside and it brings the LCP a bit higher plus it covers the trigger guard.

I had an original LCP for pocket carry but found I couldn’t shoot it very well. I shoot the G42 very well, but I find it a little big and slow to draw from a pocket. YMMV. Thanks! I got an original LCP shortly after they came out. I shot it often and still think its one of the most difficult guns I have to shoot well. It took me regular practice to stay carry-comfortable with it. I think the G42 is a little big for a front pocket. I can get to it okay from a back pocket, but I'm not comfortable with how easy others could get to it there, so I prefer inside waist band with it. LCP Max is a little more concealable than the G42. I'd say for me and jeans it wouldn't be a pocket gun that I could get to with much speed, but other style pants it might as well be a cell phone in the pocket when a good pocket holster is used.

How many shots of .380 Flat Nose FMJ (say the Winchester 95 Grain Flat Nose FMJ) to the chest (say it misses the heart and big vessels, so only hits the lungs), do you think, if you had to take a realistic guess, would it take to take down someone like Shaq's size (or any really big person, like a strongman, powerlifter, etc.)?
@Th3BaconNation3 жыл бұрын
In this fantasy situation I'm going to assume I shoot like I'm John Wick, so I'm going with one shot that passes through the ribs and hits the spine. If I'm not allowed to hit the spine, then I'm going with 1-3. I setup Paul Harrell style meat targets last year and shot them with a couple different types of ammo, including WWB. Lacking the high tech fleece bullet stop I only recovered 1 HP of everything shot because everything else went completely through the target. That 1 HP was stopped by the ribs on the back. Multiple ribs were shattered and the orange lung tissue was jacked up. Probably not the most scientific test ever, but it certainly made me never want to be shot by one.

I have a Glock 42 and I hate the recoil on it. I'm not sure if I'm actually a wuss, or the muzzle flip and recoil impulse are legitimately high, because it's a smaller gun. I thought .380 ACP was supposed to be a joy to shoot, this damn gun kicks like crazy for me lol
@Th3BaconNation2 жыл бұрын
Maybe try something like a hogue grip on yours. I find 380 to be very mild to shoot, but I'm not everyone. On some compact firearms I find the hogure grip to help absorb some recoil to help make a tiny gun easier to handle. For example, I think my P365SAS is much easier to shoot with the hogue grip on it versus the same gun without. But that's just my experience.

I bought a glock 42 brand new, has never worked FTF Stove pipes, had experienced range officer look at and another shooter, wouldn't ever trust my life with this gun.

Doesn't matter the manf/make/model, some people just get bad ones. I've had more than a few that I'd consider only range/target pieces, and others that were so bad I got rid of them. Certainly illustrates the importance of making sure what one buys works reliably and well before relying upon it, but that's just my opinion.

@@Th3BaconNation Yeah I was really disappointed after hearing so much about a glock, until this day I have never thought about buying another, Sig sauer for me.
@Th3BaconNation3 жыл бұрын
I can relate to that. I've had experiences where I've soured on a manf and not bought something for years as a result. I hated on Glock until I got the 42, but experiences like yours are certainly worth mentioning. I've had a good experience. You did not. I think people are interested in hearing both sides so they can make an informed choice when spending their hard earned money.

Sorry to hear. These tiny .380s can be very picky with certain ammo brands. You have to test out the brands of ammo before you decide to use it. My g42 has been great for 8 years now. I gave my p365 to my brother. Lol

You're hitting a 6in target with the glock 42 at 115 yards?
@Th3BaconNation2 жыл бұрын
My G42 is one of the few pistols I shoot where I can reliably hit targets at what I consider surprising ranges like that. That doesn't mean everyone can with a G42, or that I can do that with every gun, or that I can do it 100% of the time, or with every type of ammo out there. Right now its probably more like 85 yards since I haven't had a chance to shoot it that much as of late shooting everything else, but that's still significantly further than what I can do with the vast majority of even the full sized pistols out there I shoot. And that's measured shots at a nice relaxed awesome range day, not rapid fire john woo movie style explosions car chase scene shooting like i'm Sam Jackson in Shaft or the like. Ideal conditions.

Great review. I'm buying a Max to replace a stolen p3AT, the original platform stolen by ruger from kel-tec, and still less expensive. Just in case anyone cares and money is an issue, the hi-point 380 is the smoothest shooting in this caliber of all that I have shot. I couldn't believe it myself. Rapid fires much better than glock with comparable accuracy. Ugly doesn't matter where CC is concerned and life is on the line. Jmho, Buy American!!!
@Th3BaconNation3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! That hi-point is not one on my list, but if I know/meet someone who has one I'd love to add it to this comparison series. The internet seems to shit on hi-point, but I know a few people who have some and enjoy them. Ugly but works, works, which is what I value most. If I get to test one and find it works better for me than my current preferred 380 I'd have no issues buying one.

@@Th3BaconNation Most commenters on the net don't know Jack Schitt. Aesthetics over function is the general rule. I am from Cleveland and remember meeting the guy who owns the company when I was a teenager at the American/Canadian sports and outdoors show. He was building out of his garage in Mansfield, Ohio. I thought it was the coolest. An American success story, in all it's glory. The gen 1 guns were more blocky than they are now, but they were cheap, accurate and locally made. My cousin bought a pistol and later the 9mm carbine. My barber has the 380 and 40cal carbine. I chose the kel-tec 9mm for my carbine in glock configuration for 3 reasons: 1. Foldable = backpack/briefcase concealability. 2. Glock fit 33round 9mm mags readily available 3. Glock fit 50rnd drum mags were cheap, under $60 on sale when I bought mine from Bud's.... Not anymore!!!!

Ruger didn't steal anything from Kel-Tec. Copied? Sure, but not stolen. For some reason, George Kellgren never patents any of his designs so they're wide open for the taking. Legally. Copied != stolen. Big difference.

The Glock is a dinosaur in every sense and in most calibers. If it wasn’t for the aftermarket support people would not consider them at all. It is not the 80s anymore and polymer pistols come with the reliability a Glock plus a dump truck full of features that straight from factory.

I have HK's, Sigs, etc. but the most reliable handguns I have are my glocks. If I could only have one handgun it would be the glock 27 (compact, power, firepower with up to a 22 round magazine. The 26 would be next. My two cents.
@bperrin733 жыл бұрын
I own the G42, an LCPII, and the LCP Max. You "shoot better" with the Glock because the steel slide is longer (longer=heavier=more weight=more down force to mitigate muzzle rise). The Glock slide is "easier" to rack because the Max has more rounds (almost double) in the magazine, which is only a tad larger than the Glock, which means more spring tension pressure pushing the rounds up against the slide. I CC'd the Glock for 2 years, got the LCPII and still carried the Glock. I've now swapped my Glock for the LCP Max. At .380, more rounds still equals more hits on target if you practice. I've up-thumbed this video because you've done more than the average reviewer by actually presenting some range time instead of a readout of available specs - that is appreciated. I'm forced to give you a "Decent" on your overall review because your audio sounds like a VHS tape that's been copied over 20 times...Please upgrade your MIC and continue striving for better content...
@Th3BaconNation3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback on the mic. I've been testing some different mics and mic placements for the narration in my videos. I'm still trying to find that sweet spot mic setup where the narration sounds clear but people don't hear server fans and squeaky toys in the background. I don't have a sound booth, so sometimes my better mics pick up too much ambient noise, unfortunately. Nature of the beast as a amateur content creator I suppose. I mention in a couple other videos that I too believe that difficulty articulating the slide is related to the magazine spring and the upward pressure of the rounds in a full magazine against the slide. As far as the shooting better goes, the slide material is not the reason. Both guns feature steel slides. For me the 2 main factors are the LCP Max has a shorter sight radius and a trigger that I find not as good as what the G42 has. The mass of the guns definitely affects shots 2 onward, but if just the gun weight alone were a factor my first shot from both guns would be the same, and it is not. The extra size and mass I believe make the G42 a more easily shootable gun, but LCP Max is certainly good enough for its intended purpose and range. I might not shoot pretty groups with it, but I'm more than happy with it. With my original LCP I was happy putting a round anywhere on the coyote target from 25 yards. With the LCP Max I can consistently hit the 10 inch gong at 50 yards. While I can hit targets at ranges more than double that with the G42, its hard to complain about the accuracy of any pocket gun I can consistently hit a target that size at at that range, IMO.

Unfortunately my pic that went with that target did not save, however, this one - i.imgur.com/jf78wzw.jpg is a good example of how my groups currently look with that gun. I'm sure I do a poor job of representing what that gun is capable of doing with regard to accuracy.

I shoot the Max low/left. I have a second pic of that target in the Astra video after another magazine, and those 10 were still low left but a tighter group. It is taking me some time to get used to the trigger. It is just different enough than everything else for me that I'm not comfortable with it yet.

I don't have a 43 but I've shot them. I didn't find them near as enjoyable to shoot as I do the 42. I'm probably in the minority in that regard. To each their own. I've been testing a 48 for the past few months, and while I like it more than I do the 43, I feel like I should have kept the 26 I put through its paces a few years ago.

seems like you have had opposite experiences with these guns from most people, I literally couldn't get through a full mag on the G42 without a malfunction, and I have heard/seen that this is an option for the people that can't get a S&W 380 EZ, because of the easy slide.
@Th3BaconNation3 жыл бұрын
Someone else posted a comment on this video detailing various changes that have been done to the G42 since it first released to improve the reliability. The EZ has the easiest slide to work. The G42 isn't as easy, but it is better than the LCP Max in that regard. I'll also qualify that by saying the presence of a fully loaded magazine has most do with the difficulty on the LCP Max. Without the mag or with a partially loaded one there is much less resistance against the slide to contend with.
