Lin Dan is tough as hell. Playing against players like him can really kill your confidence if you're not mentally prepared. Even in the worst case scenario, he still remains super calm and totally unfazed. This quality makes a great athlete. For athletes with equal skills, physicality, and tactics, mental strength sets them apart. Because of this mental toughness, Lin Dan has trashed so many players in his era, even LCW couldn't come close. I've never been more impressed than LD's final points in this match and World Champ's 2011. Super clutch. You can't train this; you're born with it.

The one shot he saved for the last point.. Going deep in the forehand side was the trick Lin Dan uses everytime in crucial points, like in 2011 World Championships Final (The greatest match ever)... And LCW will always play a defensive shot down the line and Lin knew that.. But this time he faked him by showing to hit a smash down the line but eventually hit crosscourt

I do remember watching this live on tv. What an intense match. Maybe iam a bit biased, because i hoped Lee Chong Wei would win the gold medal this time. But i guess he was a little bit exhausted from this match, and Chen Long was just too strong in the final.

It's not so much that he was exhausted. It's because of psychological reasons in my opinion. For so many years, Lin Dan has been the wall that LCW couldn't break through, and the main driving force behind LCW's passion and determination. When that wall finally crumbled, so did his drive.

neither of them could win against CL in the final, even LD made it into final. This semi-final match took too much from them against each other. Two greatest of all time. I love them both, and I wish LCW can have a world-champion in his career. but I preferred LD win the gold again! Come on, 3 Olympic gold in a row, NO one would ever do it again.
