A very beautiful and inspired talk🙏 A wonderful explanation of the atonement, the purpose of the temples, and how the two go together to accomplish our Heavenly Fathers purpose to fulfill the plan of salvation.

President Nelson says at 13:05; 'The Savior's gift of immortality comes to all who have ever lived but his gift of eternal life requires repentance and obedience to specific ordinances and covenants.' But Jesus said ' That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:14-15

I noticed Russell Nelson mentions obedience 4 times at the following time stamps, 0:19 “All mankind may be saved by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the gospel.” 12:50 “Atonement could give immortality and eternal life to all obedient human beings.” 13:12 “His gift of eternal life requires repentance and obedience to specific ordinances and covenants essential ordinances of the gospel.” 13:51 “Obedience to the sacred covenants made in temples qualifies us for eternal life, the greatest gift of God to man.” How is obedience connected to the atonement? Does he mean our works of obedience somehow atone for our sins, justify us and make us right with God? If so, doesn't that contradict Galatians 2:16, "Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified." And if eternal life is a gift, how do we also earn it by our obedience? Is it really a no-strings-attached gift, or do we need to obey to earn the gift? It’s a gift, it’s not a gift???

It is a gift, but it must be received. Christ said in John 14:15 if ye love me keep my commandments. We receive it line upon line precept upon precept and our closeness with him is increased until we eventually become one with him and the father. This cannot happen without obedience because our sin distances us from God. Repentance allows us to turn from sin and walk in obedience and harmony with him. Salvation is completed and the way is open the question is will we walk through the door and let him change us or choose to stay the same?

@@devinhinkson3798 Isn't a gift by definition something we receive without being required to do anything in return? Or is Russell saying there are strings attached to God's gift, requirements we must meet to earn atonement? How can the atonement be a gift if we are required to do something (obey his commandments) to earn the gift?
