Leaders are the ones willing to take care of the people around them. They can exist in any level or department of an organization. We call someone “leader” because they took the risk to express uncertainty, ask for help, or head towards danger before anyone else.
+ + +
Simon is an unshakable optimist. He believes in a bright future and our ability to build it together.
Described as “a visionary thinker with a rare intellect,” Simon has devoted his professional life to help advance a vision of the world that does not yet exist; a world in which the vast majority of people wake up every single morning inspired, feel safe wherever they are and end the day fulfilled by the work that they do.
Simon is the author of multiple best selling books including Start With Why, Leaders Eat Last, Together is Better, and The Infinite Game.

This is exactly the message I needed to hear today. Although I love my job, I had decided that I will retire by next July. The stress and anxiety is not worth it. I am a naturally well structured person, I'm fairly organized and I actually enjoy routine work, but my leadership is very scattered, erratic, unpredictable and constantly changing the procedures. Needless to say, it's driving me bonkers! Although I've been on my job for 22 years, I never feel like I know what I'm doing. This is the first time in my life that I actually hate my job.

Work is the expression of human life, one can never be happy even if have enough money to take care for rest of your life. Don't quit the place you have arrived, which you have been working right from kindergarten till date just for one person for a short time. You own that place fight to stay and rule. Read a book called Moral mazes by Robert Jackall, will help you to understand the reality of corporate company working. You are enjoying your work means you are skilled. Work on your mind and body. Join a gym and work out, eat healthy, rest and hydrate well. Then work on your mind. Stay, fight and win. Best wishes

🙌🏻 exactly. I have taken a lot from your ideology of “why” and many other books you wrote. You, John Maxwell and Zig Zigglar have been my “mentors” for years. I remember I desired a mentor so bad, but never knew anyone that was like I wanted to be. I forget exactly where (Rock Thomas maybe?) say you can choose your mentors by seeking them out online, participate in their programs, buy their books etc. It changed everything for me. Here I was waiting for a mentor to find me when they were in front of me the whole time. Thank you for everything and I can not wait to launch my book and program soon. I deeply appreciate the values you have taught me. 🙌🏻🙏🏻♥️

When I see my manager I ask her how she’s doing. I saw her just the other day and asked if she needed me to get her trash. It’s as simple as that just be kind. I really want to be a leader and have already had a manager tell me that I can go through the classes to be one. I’ve thought about it but my job now is very stressful. I’m very lucky to have co workers in my life who have led me in the right way.

What to do when: 1. Your team already has a leader (with official authority) 2. You are not given any official leadership responsibilities 3. So you create your own opportunities by identifying gaps in the system and solving them (but that would come under individual contributor role, not team lead). You help your team with any queries, you don’t shy away from seeking help, etc. etc. 4. Yet, you get reviewed as “technically perfect, but not a leadership material” How do you assume leadership without having that formal authority, like of a pseudo lead or an acting lead in a corporate culture, where there are seniors within the team who too are seeking a promotion to lead?

I don't know if you will see this or not... and I am not going to disclose where I work. However, I will say that I am in an extremely fast paced retail environment. One of the shift managers recently undertook a journey a few months ago. He was my favorite shift manager. He was always available. He was there to check on people and make sure they were doing alright. He did a good job at running the shift. He always took command of a vital position at the store whatever position it might have been. He made sure people had what they needed. If a certain area or post at the store was drowning, he would jump in. I always felt at ease with him being the night shift manager. He had my back. He had the crew's back. Also, if someone did something wrong to and/or around a customer, he would ask what they did and why. He was fair. However, after a few new people came in that were hired above him, and they had been there a few months, he was told he is "not a leader" and "not a manager." He was demoted. A couple of people were given some "leadership" positions after him, and they were inherently negative or would lose their cool any time the store got really busy or something small happened. Sometimes, they would literally throw a tantrum in front of everyone or physically let their aggression out on something. Those people have since quit working at the store, and the other guy I liked as the shift manager still works there as a facilities manager with extremely reduced hours. You see? They said he wasn't a leader because he didn't have an edge toward people all of the time and didn't have a mentality of bossing people around all of the time. Ever since he was demoted, speed of service has gone way down, customer satisfaction has gone way down, there is complete chaos at night usually, and there is much less morale... A lot of the people I really liked have quit recently too. I guess that just goes to show...

Then have the courage to stand up to the people putting him down and have his back when he needs it. He took care of you all, take care of his need now. He is demoted? Like what Simon says, leadership is not a rank. Tell him he is still a leader among those who see him as such. Bring his morale up. Stand together.
