Ouch! So many things hit home and some I'm guilty of in the past (well probably some even in the present) The quote I found most striking: "A level 8 employee will not follow a level 7 leader for long". 100% true. Leadership is a skill that needs to be leveled up. Most people think just because they are "a leader now" by being promoted that's the end of the line when in fact it's a skill reset and you start at 0 again. Great video Mike!

OFF TOPIC BUT I GOTTA KNOW: have you seen that video... the fish philosophy one? Jeez it’s like one of those old cheesy videos about these folks who work with stinky fish but they enjoy the crud out of it? (I hope I’m accurate with this description - it’s been a long time....)

@@LeadershipwithMike just in case this is more convenient, and if you’re curious, here’s the link kzbin.info/www/bejne/lXKkgodsnst6r9U It really impacted me and I try to do what I can to create as similar of an atmosphere as you’ll see in the video. I work so hard to build up my people so they feel empowered enough to reach their true potential, no matter where they end up in life. It really did a lot for me when I got into management. I will never believe that bad managers exist solely because they were dealt a hand of dud employees. Good managers exist because good employees exist. Good employees exist when you are capable of showing them how much potential they have in them. I believe that just about anybody can be a good employee if you’re good with people and if you are patient and take the time to help them grow. By growing one person, EVERYONE grows as well. And when you have a team that feels welcome, appreciated, and respected, and that you are truly invested in their success, they will almost always choose positivity. People do tend to match energies. It’s contagious; much like a yawn, and when you can start your time out on a positive, you’re already set up for a successful day. I also believe that work can be FUN. I love working - when it’s not a toxic job - and if you’ve already got a bunch of people in a good mood and ready to make it happen, of course it’s going to be fun. Not like roller coaster fun or Alice Cooper concert fun, but fun. Its important to me to make sure that every single person that I’ve given a job to feels like they are a VALUED part of the team and that they are worthy of your investment. I try to connect on some level with every single person I work with - ask how they’re doing, mention something that reminded you of them, give them a cheesy birthday card that you scribbled out during your only five free seconds... whatever silly little thing it may be. It’s just one more way I can show them that I truly do care and that I not only value them as an employee, but as a human existing out there with the rest of us. I mean, I like how it feels, I can only assume other people might as well. Building a sense of unity or “family” is crucial; but definitely keep it professional, you know? Family sticks it out through everything, and they’re there for you when you need them, or they do the same to you because it goes both ways... family looks out for one another, and when you have a similar sense of unity with people you work with, you can probably count on any of them to be there for you when you need them to be (at work; like covering shifts, doing that one task that everyone hates - like when my very first boss tried to make me sweep a human turd off of the parking lot. 😑 why is this my life). God dang I’m just going to awkwardly end this comment because clearly I enjoy words. Hahaha I love your videos, man, you’re my kind of people.
