MAAP are currently hosting their Equinox series of rides! I've been asked to lead one of the weekend rides and in todays video we will be riding all the way to Mount White and back! This ride is 120km and has a fair amount of elevation. To keep us motivated we're going to check out Saddles which is one of the nicest resturants in the world. This ride is also my return to cycling after my crash, so this ride was going to be a challenge for me. Hope you enjoy :)

Wow what a superb vid. Sydney is just great and with great venues. You’re not just showing stunning rides, but showing the beauty of Sydney and what the city offers. It demonstrates Sydney holds its own as an international city. The tourism boards should be thanking you on blended knee. I can also vouch for the cycplus pump. It’s fantastic holds full charge for ages, lighter than 2 CO2 cartridges and I get 3 inflates to 85 PSI from it. I agree with you more reliable than CO2 canisters. Hope the knee continues to improve.

Thank you for the kind words mate. Waiting for my paycheque from the tourism board 😂 Yea I just remember one time the CO2 cartridge fully discharged before I could put it on the valve. Situation like that is a disaster and the only way to fix it is rely on the generosity of a passer by to give you another C02 or have a pump 🥲

Looks like a great route, I look forward to riding some Sydney roads in the future. Can't say I personally get the appeal of these little battery pumps, not sure what problem they're solving. The pump I carry with me now weighs 95g, cost $20 and never needs to be recharged and has no consumable parts. Takes maybe 2 minutes to inflate a 25C tyre to 90psi. I had a stint with CO2 inflators but wasn't a fan of the wastage.
@joshkwan
@joshkwan 4 ай бұрын
By and large agree with you. A couple of points though: - hand pump may not let you dial in the exact pressure you want - when traveling you can use this instead of bringing a floor pump

That was a quick recovery! Going from a hole in your knee to a "nice easy" 120km in 1.5 weeks with a marathon in between. You just can't take a break! Those bib shorts look neat. Do you feel stuff in the side pocket? Sometimes I've wanted to just wear a tshirt but don't have pockets to put stuff into so I end up wearing a jersey and a tshirt over it to look a bit more casual. 9:15 oh why hello there... i feel like i need to buy a pump right now! 9:54 for a sec there I thought oh no, not again! Also great music choice again, really sets the casual-ride tone. p.s. I ended up toggling CC on and off thinking I had it on. How come they're baked in this time?
@joshkwan
@joshkwan 4 ай бұрын
Haha I just got too much energy and also the weather in Sydney has just been so perfect I could not help going outside!!! The bib shorts are really comfy. Feeling stuff in the pockets would mainly depend on what you plan to put in there, but for me I've had no issues with putting a phone or gels in there. Thanks! Trying to build up a library of mood setting music, which suits the vibe of the video. not as easy as it seems! I bought some software recently which auto generates the captions. I thought this might be useful for people, or make the video a bit more enjoyable to watch. What do you think?
@veryboringname.
@veryboringname. 4 ай бұрын
@@joshkwan How long does it take you to find jussttt the right track(s) for a video? The captions look much better than the YT ones. At first they were a little distracting as my eyes automatically start reading them but I got used to them after a while. I was surprised it managed to transcribe "elasticy"! Speech transcription has gotten so much better now. It does help with confirming place names (like Saddles) which I might miss the first time round (settles? sebels? sevilles?). I could just glance down and read it.
@joshkwan
@joshkwan 4 ай бұрын
@@veryboringname. Seriously, sometimes over an hour. Capturing the video content is the easy part haha. Getting the audio and story telling right is much harder. The software is probably 95% correct, but I do a manual check as well. I paid alot for the software (~$500, but also had alot of other features) so I'm glad its got a bit of value for my viewers :)
@veryboringname.
@veryboringname. 4 ай бұрын
@@joshkwan Over an hour - doesn't surprise me! Finding just the right track in the end is so satisfying. Everything gets tied up together nicely. All those changes throughout too. $500!! I guess at least it does more than 1 task, like that gps overlay software! Now give that knee some rest!

Josh, I noticed you never bring 2 water bottles. How do you stay hydrated on these long rides?? Ps: I hate the saddle bag too, that is why I ask😂
@joshkwan
@joshkwan 4 ай бұрын
Luckily during winter and shoulder season I can easily run 1 bottle. But since it’s warming up I think I’ll be running two bottles till the end of summer. Usually I put my tube/tire levers/multi tool into a zip lock bag in one of my back pockets. I’m finding pocket space is a premium now that I also have to carry a camera to make videos. Cargo bibs have been a good solution 🙏

Enjoy your videos, watching from Chicago IL far west suburb - not a fan of light bibs (preference, you asked) - what was the average speed for 120k?
@joshkwan
@joshkwan 4 ай бұрын
28km/hr 1700m elevation We did all the main climbs at our own pace though. So speed ranged between 25-28km/hr over the whole ride. RE light bibs. I think I prefer black or navy as well. The lighter ones can be a bit…revealing.
