Leadville Trail Marathon Results 2019: www.athlinks.c...
We've had quite the weekend of filming for the Leadville Marathon 2019 edition. Lots smiles and altitude always make for a great race weekend in Leadville Colorado. The Leadville marathon is becoming an iconic race in the Arkansas River Valley. Many use the Leadville marathon as a testing ground for the Leadville 100 mile race which happens in August. The competition was steep this year on both sides, but especially on the women's side of the race with Kara Goucher toeing the line in her first trail race. I'm excited to track Kara Goucher's continued work off the pavement as she makes inroads into the trail and who knows, maybe even ultra running at some point.

I raced Leadville this past weekend, coming from Kansas City (910ft of elevation) and it was incredible. As someone who on a decently flat course can hold a 6:30 pace or lower, it was definitely humbling to be reduced to screaming lungs and leg muscles. My heart rate was through the roof most of the race but I finished near what I thought I would in 4:08:55. I think that for anyone racing at altitude, be prepared for running uphill for a LONG time because I did not prepare well enough for that and that definitely affected my race performance. Enjoyed your video!

I have completed the Pike’s Peak Marathon, the Silver Rush 50 (my first 50) in Leadville and the Zion 100 (my first 100) in Utah (that I think is 5,000 ft at times?) All were extremely tough and slow finishes for this low-lander from 1,000 ft Missouri! Headed to the Black Hills in South Dakota in two weeks for a 50 in 5-7,000 feet!

Being that there are a lot of gear lovers on here, I can't be the only one wondering what shoes the top finishers were wearing? The winner looked like New Balance? And did the 3rd place have X Talons on? Seth, could this be part of your future videos maybe? I always find it interesting to see what the pros wear! Maybe it's just me... ☺️

WHAT!!! I was there and ran the Heavy Half! I would have said "hi" if I knew you were there. I'm sad that I missed you 😢 Anyways, I placed 18/102 in my age group (30-39) and placed 52/735 overall for the Heavy Half, for a finish time of 2 hours 24 minutes and 9:19 min per mile average (which is about 2 minutes slower than most of my training runs at 6,000 ft above sea level. Don't underestimate the elevation in Leadville and those uphill climbs!).

Ran Pikes Peak Ascent last year. Race was cut short due to weather (which may not have every materialized at the peak, but oh well). Coming from Cincinnati, it was a very interesting experience. My training was non existent due to an injury, but I made it work and finished the shortened course in like 1:45ish. Hardest 7+miles I've ever run, but the run back down was beautiful and I took tons of pictures and loved every step!

Yeah the weather is been a horrible here, I think we had two 70 degree days in 3 months, there's never any sun, and all it does is rain. lol what a beautiful town, an amazing race, now that's my kind of Marathon. The top three were flying in females and males. What a great vlog Seth. I definitely need to go to Colorado someday. I climbed Mount Diablo,In California, It's 11 Mile climb,.and I did it in an hour on a bike. And that was after I rode 30 miles. And my breathing wasn't that bad. But I was in the best shape of my life.

Altitude. I believe all but 4 races I’ve run were in the 5,000 - 7,000 ft range. Since it is what I’m used to, it is normal for me. But the one time I ran a half at sea level it was a huge PR for me at the time and felt so easy.

Had to look up elevation but I believe I went up to over 5,280 ft at one point.Canmore itself is at about 4800ft. Coming from Manitoba, this was definitely a highlight in the races I have been too.
