Excellent fundamentals here for those looking to start a build. Solidifies my past choice to stick with long travel leafs for now and forgo the massive expenses associated with a 4-link setup. I'll stick with my leafs for now and continue to max them out. Appreciated the real numbers too and also mentioning the other costs not included, and it's often times, the shop time and hidden expenses that get away from us when we start a build. Well done explaining such.

Wow just wow!!! Bud I have to say that in about 20 minutes you’ve given more information than I’ve seen in 20 hours or more of KZbin videos. At first I thought you would bore me to death but nope not once was I distracted or bored very well done. Extremely knowledgeable. You covered so much in a short period of time and I was able understand what you were talking about thank you so much I’ll be subscribing. I live in the midsouth and have always wanted a pre runner. No I don’t have desert but I do have fire roads turn roads and back roads to burn down. So thank you. Keep it up. Seems that each video is just going to keep getting better. Very impressed

I wanted to do a prerunner setup on my dads 99 f150 extended cab 6 3/4ft bed 2wd. It had the 4.2 v6 so I would've needed a better engine. But it also had 425,000 miles on it before it died and he sold it😔.
@nitroxide173 жыл бұрын
RAM/jeep trucks use basically a 4 link (plus track bar) setup. The new F-150 raptor is also a 4 link plus track bar setup in the rear. They do sag more with towing but the ride quality is generally pretty good.

One way to save cost on leaf springs. Using Chevrolet leaf springs 88 to 98 cedonia and Sierra pickups 1500. Look up TSR which is the ranger station they have a good article on the swap for the class 7 trucks. I am running them on my Class 8 and getting about 18 to 20 in a travel. There's still a lot of old school tricks of the trade that make a big difference and helps cut down the cost. I love the videos like to see a video on the roll cages. Different styles and the Dom tubing sizes for the weight ratio for their different classes of vehicles. Looking forward to seeing more videos

Great video. I’d love to hear more about how different differentials work. Open, limited, Detroit, tru trac, lunch box and spools. 8.8 vs 9, c clips and eliminator kits, Chevy 8botlts, 14botls. Difference between a mini spool vs a full spool? What are c clips? What is a floater? How do locking hubs work? How much does it all weigh? Hows that effect handling? What is a carrier? Is an e locker worth it? Why does the same differential use different lockers is it was factory lsd vs open? What’s the best locker? What’s the best rear end? Budget vs performance? For junk yard rear ends maybe even mention drum vs disk? What to look for at the pick a parts?

Nice video man. I'm just getting into Off-Roading and trying to learn as much as I can about suspension setups, cage setups, front end and which truck I want to go with. I was planning on getting the gen 2 Raptor which supposed to already be setup for going Off-Road but, as I learned a bit more I was concerned about the leaf springs on it and I really like the "gliding" over the whoops and the longer travel that 4 links provide. I know the new Raptor coming out is a 5 link setup which caught my attention but, the rest of it looks a bit feminine in my opinion. The Gen 2 looks a more robust to me. I also like that they're making an option for a 37 model. I wanted to do 37s on the Gen 2 but, to do it right I've seen that you pretty much have to toss the stock suspension and I really don't want to throw away fairly new parts just to stick 37s on the truck and pay even more just so that the truck can function properly. I appreciate the facts first and then your opinion as well at the end.

Another question, what about starting with a 1 ton chassis? So if I where to buy an OBS F-350, and wanted to use the stock Sterling 10.25 rear axle, would it still be too weak, or would it be strong enough?
@dobermanracing4 жыл бұрын
10.25/10.5 is similar strength to a 14 bolt but with a shorter pinion snow which allows for a longer drive shaft. 10.25/10.5 doesn't have as big of a gear and locker selection. A 1 ton platform will be very heavy and require very expensive shocks to control it.

What was the name of the leaf spring company?
@ttt694203 жыл бұрын
It's more about the shock than anything else. I think with a nice, tuned, 3 way shock you can get similar performance to deal with the progressiveness of a leaf spring. That's why you can always feel it, it gets overly stiff under compression. You just don't get the stability, geometry, or linear spring rate of a coil. Plus a custom spring pack is expensive and a headache. A 4-link is definitely better in every way, but I think performance is the least of them. That said there's really no reason to put money into a leaf setup now that link conversions are so common and documented.
