I found one of these poor frogs in a tiny tank just like this at a Walgreens back in the year 2000. I immediately removed him from the tiny tank and put him in a big tank. He became a happy frog with a nice life, especially after he got some snail buddies in there to keep him company, and later, a neon tetra fish as well. His name was Froggy, he lived until he was 12 years old. After he died, I buried him in his own special painted frog coffin, under a tree, in Golden Gate Park near a pond. He was a great frog.

I had one of those frogs with an extra leg sticking out of his head. He was perpetually waving as he swam around. It would get a little bit stuck as he navigated the plants, but it never really slowed him down. We had all the same little guys, badis, skrimp, black worms, gammarus, and a rock bass. We got a jug of water from a local source, and my girlfriend was convinced this tiny see-through fish that we found when we got home, it was just a tiny mosquito fish. I told her it was going to be a monster and we need to go back and let it go. She insisted on pouring it in the tank. So I bought a kiddie pool and started naturalizing that with substrate and guppies and the knowledge we basically just had a kid. You're never going to believe what happened, we found out the miniscule clear fish was just a baby bass. This guy, he was a machine. We got him basically week one, and we were never scary, we were the source of treats. So he would put on quite the show for us

as someone who has now seven of these frogs (they've been moved to a 15 gallon, with sand for a substrate, plants, rocks, and drift wood to hide in, two snails, and a fish), we did get them from a local store that wasn't a fish store but a "hobby store". our little guys are happy, and we got them where we did because the owner did care about the frogs and took care of them as best he could. that being said, we stopped giving them the pellets once they got into their new tank, giving them bloodworms and brineshrimp instead. the frogs started to grow almost immediately after their diets were switched, and as of now they're quite happy. all of the supplies we use are from a true fish store a bit further away, although we do continue getting our food from a petsmart as we do frozen for convenience

the editing and scripting in this is so charming. I love those little red shrimps and their Animal Crossing voices. ❤️ also, I had two African dwarf frogs as a child that my parents got me from a very upsetting retailer called Grow-a-Frog. these dudes came through the regular mail, as tadpoles, in a plastic bag sealed in styrofoam. somehow, I lost one of three, but kept two alive through my college years. the last survivor lived to be over 20. I had no idea what I was doing and didn’t feed them the most healthful diet or keep their tank as clean as it should’ve been. I’m still so thankful for the years of companionship they gave me despite my poor stewardship. and I’m so thankful for what you did for your lil frogs. it’s really beautiful.

I've owned a clam as a kid from a fishing trip with family friends, I had been walking around the lake since I didn't want to fish. I ended up seeing something near the shoreline, I thought it was a rock but after my mom got it out of the water. It was a clam, my mom ended up letting me keep it. The clam ended up living in a 20-30 gallon tank all by itself and followed my mom whenever she was. If she was on the right side so was it and same for the left, it was werid to me as a kid since I never saw it move. Well it ended up passing sometime later, i believe from old age ans my mom decided to extract the pearl from inside of it. It ended up being a light pieple nearly white pearl, super beautiful.

This brings back memories, did something very similar with small blue spotted salamanders, guppies, fresh water clam, 2 ghost shrimp, plants and more. Had a grow light on a timer and no filter. Made a custom 2 tier terrarium/aquarium, allowed a tiny hole at the bottom of the substrate wall to allow some of the nitrogen rich water to slowly leach in and allow the clovers and plants get water and nutrients. Left it for over 6 months, water was still pristine, guppies were multiplying but numbers didn't explode as other things would help eat and remove them, even got salamander tadpoles. Was a fun and neat experiment that took a couple months to fine tune, but once the ecosystem got going it seemed to take care of itself which was my goal.

11:35 yeah I get that actually, the more pond like the tank, the more dangerous the ecosystem, not always but I get what you are saying. You want the environment to not be dangerous in your tank unlike the wilds of ponds. Swimming creatures might not have falling damage to worry about outside but they still die to the environment like how frogs can get tangled in seaweed and how lilly pads can be too heavy for mostly aquatic creatures to surface or get sun. The home made ecosystem actually can be way safer if u keep it in check.
@Bobols916 ай бұрын
You probably already know but if someone tries the same thing at home they should know that the assassin snail can sometimes (it's rare) kill shrimp. Additionally, even buying only one can result in a large population over time, which can negatively affect an ecosystem. Your tank looks amazing btw !

I did the same with Opae Ula (Halocaridina rubra,) shrimp in a so-called 'biosphere.' 8 turned into 200+, so much so that I had to convert them into freshwater (they stop breeding when changed from their preferred brackish water to fresh water. ) When I moved country, thanks to how rare they had become in those few years, I made 6 grand selling them, before leaving. My buyers got a lot of info from me on not just how to keep them health, but also on how to breed them, because they are highly sought after in the shrimp-keeping hobby, there. They assured me that they would make sure the hobby would thrive again.

If you want to keep clams in a tank, you should put them in a separate container in the tank. It makes it easier to control their location, they won't uproot your plants, and it's easier to make a weekly check if they're still alive. If one dies, and you can't find it, the ammonia spike will suddenly kill your tank.

Growing up, my mom and dad had a huge salt water tank. On the top of the tank, they had an eco system with the same tiny frogs. We would often come home to some dried up frog that had jumped and no one was around to rescue them and put them back into the tank. I’ve always felt badly for those tiny frogs. Thank you for extending your kindness to all of God’s creatures! ❤

Your parents just let the frogs die instead of putting a cover on the tank?

Aw, I love African dwarf frogs. I had no idea they were being sold in hardware stores - ack! I’ve been planning on getting another one; I had one in a full bioactive tank and kept her next to my desk in my bookcase. I didn’t even have to feed her too often; worms, fry, and eggs took care of most diet. Man, I wasn’t planning on starting to set my tank up til I got home from traveling abroad , but that’s like September and….

Get at least two, if you're getting any. They're pretty social and do better in groups than alone.

@@wasnlos2676 That's interesting - definitely different information than when I had one before. (They were supposed to be kept alone, or with things you didn't mind them eating, because they were both carnivorous and cannibalistic.)

Love your quirky way of doing these videos. Perfect amount of facts and sarcasm/humour. Keep up the amazing work ❤
Some stuff that i dont understand in my sisters tank; she LITERALLY has a FIVE GALLON tank and has two giant goldfish and one huge snail and platy fish and dwarf frogs… two of her platy fish died and surprisingly the goldfish ATE them, and I have no idea what her dwarf frog eats but it is HUGE and I mean HUGE, she feeds her fish like everyone half a week?? And never cleans her tank.. I’ve cleaned it for her several times, but it starts to get mucky again a day after.Not sure but anyway have a nice day/night❤
