It could happen anywhere! When my sister was a kid she took a snail out of California back to our home in Colorado, she was keeping it as a pet. It died eventually and she put the shell in our backyard. Turns out it wasn't dead because we found several snails in the yard the following spring. 😬 They theoretically shouldn't be able to survive the winters here but somehow they did. Just like in Jurassic Park, "life finds a way".

This seems to be a common problem with this type of gecko. Last year a former coworker I’ve stayed in touch with bought a new home, and the former owners said “we think we found all the escaped geckos”. They had most certainly not found all the escaped geckos. The new house has an orangery which my friend filled up with tropical plants, fruit trees, etc, and there are geckos all over it. After three months they just gave up trying to get rid of them, and a kid comes around once a month to collect as many as she can find, and in return, she gets to keep the proceeds of any she sells.

Komodo dragons also can breed this way. Discovered at Chester Zoo in the UK. They were also quite recently declared venomous also. Previously it was assumed bacterial infection in the saliva led to sepsis. Love your videos. Awesome presentation. Soothing commentary. In my country we have these geckos or at least similar, they live in every home, and even new houses will eventually had them. I quite like them, they make kissing-like noises and like sweet things. They scared you in the middle of the night moving things when you turn on the light, but they are good roommates, they eat cockroaches and small scorpions :D

If you put crinkly plastic near lamps and fish tank lamps, you can hear if they're hanging out over there and locate them pretty easily. A smooth sided container with the top 3" of wall greased up and some food and hiding spots in the bottom would also lure them in and they shouldn't be able to get back out.

The pet store I get most of my terrarium gear at had some day geckos escape at some point, years ago. Ever since, youd just occasionally see a wild gecko sitting somewhere in a corner of the wall or ceiling where you cant quite get to them, and this has been the case for at least as long as I've known the place.
