I think you just need to clear the objective room / quest, but I can't say for sure. Don't have the rule book handy, and didn't memorize all of the rules.

Hello Daniel! I have one quick question. How well do you think Loke Battlemats would work with the skirmish battles? I was reorganizing my board games to make room for this monster of a box when I saw my Loke Battlemat books. Would the 24x24 map size be too large for the skirmishes?

I think the quest ends when you finish the objective room, but no reason why you couldn't keep exploring and rolling for monsters / threat. The game is super easy to customize to be anything you want, really.

Thank you for the good overview. I was considering getting this, but I own some similar games (unplayed) like SoB and Darklight: Memento Mori. As far as I understand all three games is missing a main storyline players can pursue. Random quests without a higher goal doesn’t feel that interesting. In addition, Dungeoneers has so many options to do and when watching other preview videos, gameplay seemed taking lot of time.

Exactly. These are what I call character survival campaigns, not narrative campaigns. I make the story as we go by connecting dots based on what my characters have actually done. I greatly prefer that, because any story I can make will always be better than just reading a story already written by someone else, because it becomes my story. But some people prefer scripted narrative campaigns. This, SOB, Darklight, and WHQ aren't that kind of game.

@@TheDungeonDive The concept of emergent story telling clicked for me with SOB. While I still like a good narrative campaign game. Games like SOB you can truly write your own story.

@@xenocross5129 If that’s the case, would be great to combine between the freedom for side questing and then occasionally choosing to do main storyline quests to have a real end goal. Though the complexity of combat, charts and slow gameplay might not be for me.

Thanks for another great video about LoD! Might I suggest adding a short note about Companions instead of heroes when you talk about using a full party? I at least would have been scared away from the game, if I thought I had to play four characters to enjoy the game fully. Playing with two heroes and two companions when playing the game two players is much more palatable and immersive for me at least.

If the objective room is in the bottom half of the deck, and if you get the 4-way corridor in the first dungeon room and then stack it the way you did, wouldn't the objective now be near the top of one of the 3 stacks? Do you shuffle before the drawing the next encounter card? If you did, you could still draw the objective room in the 2nd room? I have my copy on the way, but I haven't read the rules yet.

That's why you deal from the bottom. The objective is in the bottom part, so the top part would end up on the top.

The focus on the dungeons seems to be more combat, but there are more event cards coming in an expansion. But it's an easy game to house rule and bring in your own supplements, which I'll be talking about Friday.

It looks good, but just like Shadows of Brimstone, I'm guessing that finding the right tile will be a slow down. Does anyone have a solution to this? Is there any way to categorize these to make it faster? I think I would just change the orientation of the doors to show if they're closed, open, or bashed.

I have Descent2nd ed, and sort my tiles in numbered plastic bags (1-9, 10-19, etc.) Hopefully I can do somethin similar here.

great video, thanks! i find it strange that if youve used your one dodge for the battle and if youre not in a parry action, its just as easy for a monster to land a hit on your level 1 wizard as it is a level 10 warrior as player characters do not have the "to hit" stat. tell me im missing something!

Well, everyone has a CS (Combat Skill) for melee and RS (Range) for shooting. You generally manipulate Character creation to make these skills as good as possible. Often even early Fighters have melee skils of 50 or 55 and better - and these increase by levelling up. ALSO - you would not have a party with a lvl 10 warrior and a lvl 1 wizard

@@Vlad65WFPReviews thanks. what i meant is that its just as easy for a monster to strike a lvl 1 character as it is for them to hit a lvl 10 if they have used their dodge for the battle and are not in parry stance. monsters (and not player characters) have a "to hit" value which is a negative modifier to your CS roll when you attack them. maybe knowing when to use dodge and parry is the tactic. cant wait to find out!

@@2012CptSaint Don't feel too bad, I'm in the same boat. There are quite a few errors that will likely be corrected in a 2nd printing and also potential gameplay changes too. I think you'll have a better game if you wait for a 2nd printing, assuming those corrections are made for it.

I do not get this game. This isn't a dungeon crawler board game, this is a pen and paper RPG that happens to use board game pieces. This is just way too involved for any sort of board game and considering the complexity of the rules I just don't get why you wouldn't play Pathfinder or D&D and not have to deal with the limitations of the game pieces in the box. For that matter, I feel like I've played pen and paper systems that were less complicated than this. So really this just seems WAY too dense for a board game and simultaneously not meaty enough for an RPG.

Most people don’t play Pathfinder or DND solo. Lots of people play dungeon crawl board games solo. Additionally, speaking as a former perpetual DM, I just got tired of having to be eternally creative to keep our rpg sessions going. I mostly just play board games these days because I get a lot of the same feel with 100% less effort. The fact that you CAN do anything in an rpg is rather besides the point if you’re too burnt out to make it exciting. TLDR: RPGs require a lot more mental energy to function at a level that exceeds what board games like this do by default.
