Yeh, they used technology called holo-projection which is basically projecting hologram onto transparent pane. The difference between this and Hatsune Miku is that vocaloids use single pane while Riot used more than 2 layers on each side giving it more freedom to move in 3D.

@@ovenchipp3475I had tickets from a MasterCard manager friend of mine. They sponsor the opening ceremony. So I got backstage access and saw them rehearsing the ceremoney the day before the event. This "ticket" did cost about 100 euros (backstage, rehearsal and the games the next day)

Apparently this year you could actually see the effects on stage because, unlike the other years where they used AR, this year they were using holograms
@reck63284 жыл бұрын
Not really holograms, none of this is 3D. Its 2D projections.
@mehdikhelil14114 жыл бұрын
@@Kaylakaze Hey there ! I was inside the arena for the finals so I can give precisions on how they worked it. They used panels to make a screen cube PLUS panels around that cube and the stage to play with the impression of depth during the ceremony, that's what makes you believe it's 3D, but it's only 2D projections on panels. However, compared to the previous years, the "All Around the Stage" configuration of the AccorHotels Arena, while it creates a unique atmosphere, absolutely gorgeous when you are inside, is completely bad when it comes to do a show like this ceremony, as only the public who was in front of the singers could actually enjoy the whole ceremony correctly. It was rather good for the public facing them the other way around, but the people on the side could not see a lot. It's of course a production oriented for the streaming viewers, and the public inside the arena is there to create the epic atmosphere.
@Brswing4 жыл бұрын
Not technically holograms. They used an SFX technique called Pepper's Ghost that has been around for quite a while. And although it is technically not 3D, the difference is that they were able to simulate 3D by going the extra mile. @Mehdi Khelil more or less sums it up perfectly. Truly a masterful display of effects. Other companies and organizations need to look at what Riot is doing.
@grenvallion4 жыл бұрын
obv it's not actually holograms since we haven't even invented holograms yet lol. we're not quite there technologically yet. it's not too difficult for them to use boxes and projections though to make it look 3D

Unlike the AR cameras for Pop/Stars last year, the audience was able to see the holograms on stage. As I understand it, there's a translucent curtain around the stage that the hologram is projected on. You can see the outlines of the curtain when there's a lot of light in the arena. The tournament is over, this was the finals. We got clapped again by China, but it was a great tournament overall.
@infiniteaj86884 жыл бұрын
They're not holograms, just 2D projections on a panel, with other effects to make it look 3D (explained more in another comment). Holograms would mean they are absolutely no panels.

I think the really amazing thing is how the production is so coordinated that they put the live performers on stage, but are able to blackout the lights on them and project an image of them somewhere else, making it look like they can teleport- perhaps most notably at 7:10 where they got the singer to apparently use Lissandra's Glacial Passage skill to teleport across the stage. It really did end up being sadly ironic that the Worlds Song Riot commissioned this year was Phoenix- and in the end, Fun Plus Phoenix from China absolutely _annihilated_ G2 in the grand final, despite G2 being the massive favourites. Some salty idiot conspiracy theorist fanboys even cited this as "proof" that Riot had been pressured by Chinese owners Tencent to rig the entire tournament to ensure China won again. Morons. Incidentally, during the team introductions, each team's substitute was holding their team's biggest season trophy. The FPX sub was holding the LPL (China) regional championship trophy, but the sub for G2 was holding the MSI (Mid-Season Invitational) trophy that G2 had won earlier this year, the second-biggest award in LoL after the Summoner's Cup itself.
