Same here. I missed the christmas box, but I picked up a combat patrol box and im waiting on that. I 3d printed some hearthguard, still need to print the last 5, and some thunderkyn. Im waiting for whenever they drop the codex to see what they do with the army. ATM I just play with friends and im not planning on playing at a tourney.

I actually don’t mind a single magna-rail cannon in my army, providing you can budget a command re-roll which has higher utility with this weapon. It hits very reliably with this and judgement tokens. Plus it’s just awesome when it does dev wounds and spikes

Currently working on a new Votann army, halfway to 2k assembled and painted with the rest ready to go. One of the things I like the most is that the weapons are so easy to magnetize and swap out. My initial games were going to have two fortresses, one with a conversion beamer and the other with an ion cannon to see how they do. Thanks for the analysis, just found this channel.

Thanks Stoic! Hope it proves useful! As a little tip when building the model, you can get away with not gluing any guns so that you can swap them out as needed. The turrets are push fit and the big gun might need a little blue tac or a magnet but it holds decently well. Best of luck with the box!

Played 1k into knights the other day! I took the Magna Rail and it felt pretty consistent overall, and even did a dev wound to delete a Armiger. Saving 1 CP to roll through it’s attack and wound felt like it was rwally valuable.

I take Magna Rail and hope for the best. Using the Double Sustained hit strategm on the Land Fort. It's dumb but I have one shot a Knight multiple games with the Land Fort. Not going to happen a lot but it's funny when it does.

I only had 1 problem with this video, the fact it came live while i was in class and had to wait for classes to end to watch it XD Otherwise, my basic go to main weapon as someone who never tried the HLF yet, would be the conversion beamer, sustain D3 on 4+? hell yeah! but since 2 sagitaurs are more points than 1 HLF, I guess I'll have to decide if i take HLF or 2 sagi when i build my first 1000 points

As a Rail enjoyer I see the math and pros/many cons, but then again I see the odd things that make it pull ahead, better within 12", can spike once in a 1000 years with Sus hits 2....ok yeah that is it...drat

I'm a huge fan of the cyclic ion cannon, I used to look at it like the ugly stepchild, but in the last few games, it's really done its job. I use my Hekaton as a gun platform first and a troop carrier second, and when I took the SP heavy conversion beamer, I found myself often having issues staying outside 12 against some matchups. I wanna move forward and support my troops and get into those good firing lanes while still dropping off infantry, but the beamer makes me wanna stay back. I was at odds with it. While yes it's less damage against tougher vehicles and really elite units. I found that just having another infantry mulcher has helped my army more so that I can free up my hearth guard or have a unit of beserks riding shotgun only to pop out to deal with what the hekaton can't. I'm also a fan of putting ancestral sentences on it, and with the beamer, you'd lose out on the sustain 2, but with the ion! I easily make back the hekaton's points back and more some.

Really fascinating stuff especially since I just built my second and third Hekaton last night lol! Found your channel from Reddit and already sharing your videos with some friends. I’m hyped on watching the Hearthguard video next! Would love to see a similar video on Thunderkyn as I’m really unsure which gun I like on them or even if I like the unit much at all despite hearing good things about them. If you'rre planning on utilising your Hekaton as a troop transport, would you still value the Conversion Beamer as highly? That seems like it would make it more likely to be inside the conversion range for a lot of targets you might want to select. Do you consider that a worthwhile concern? How much would that weight your choice of weapons? Would that make you favour the Ion Beamer as an 'assault hekaton' or the magna rail if favouring anti-vehicle at anticipated closer ranges?

Meh, I think its a platform first and a transport second. The way I look at it is that the things inside are usually better equipped to deal with any close range threats (volkanite HG for example) while the gun takes care of larger threats. There is 100% an argument for taking the Ion though if your list necessitates it. Maybe if you are thunderkin heavy perhaps? I've only played around with the SP but I am open to trying the Ion out as I do think it can work into some matchups. I would prefer that over the Magna, despite them being designed for different targets. Magna is just way too unreliable as a lot of stuff have invulns

Of note is that Ancestral Sentence is pretty decent on a fortress IF you are running Cyclic Ion Cannon.

Honestly, the Votann need some serious rework. None of their transports can hold their top size squads. 6 Thunderkin not fitting in a Land Fortress is criminal. Also the change that they made where most of the ranged weapons range were nerfed by like 6" on average for an army that is slower than a sloth on weed should be taken up with Geneva. It is in lore supposed to be a faction like Fantasy dwarves: Tough, strong, but slow as hell. It is a ranged army for sure with some decent melee options, but unlike other ranged armies, due to their average like 18-24" range, they may get 1 turn of shooting before being forced into combat. AND Their shooting isn't even that great anymore, hitting on a 4+ with everything unless Judged is stupid. Anti-tank or anti-monster is basically non existent right now. And did I say they may only get 1 turn of shooting? Apparently the Tau got the technology for the railgun from the Votann but the Tau's railgun is multitudes better? And actually shoots further than a bolter. GW needs to do better because as is, this faction has so much great lore but the army is basically Hearthguard on tabletop. Going forward with other factions getting new units and getting their rules fleshed out, most have lots of space to grow. As is, the Votann have none.
