I have 10mo old twins and SO MANY ONESIES that don’t fit. THANK YOU for sharing! Every time they outgrow something and my husband piles things in to the donate box I get super sad 😅. I tell him that I could totally upcycle that fabric and he reminds me that I barely sew the stuff I have 😆. This seems like a perfect, fairly quick, project.

I would love to see you finishing this! Sure wish I had known this technique last year when I did a baby quilt for my now 12 year old granddaughter. This would have been so much easier. But I have great grands now and would like to try this method. I had said I would never make another one! So thank you for sharing this!

I love a knit quilting tutorial that doesn’t use interfacing! The second quilt I started was a T-shirt quilt & the design I liked most (& therefore the only tutorial I read before starting) didn’t use interfacing. I spent years questioning my decision because of watching every other tutorial use interfacing. Then again, I came from garment sewing, so I didn’t understand why quilters were scared of the stretch😅

I’ve been wanting to do this for years after finding out I was pregnant , I don’t even have a machine yet but I’m watching videos to motivate me . However this blanket is totally for me because I have a boy who probably won’t appreciate this like a girl would 😂 excited to start collecting everything to get this project going as a beginner who hasn’t touched a sewing machine since like 2008 home-ec class thank you for this.

That's great! And my son loved his blankets with Cuddle (minky) fabric on the back. Though you won't want him to sleep with it (flammable) You can definitely do this technique by hand too, it'll just take longer.

@@LeahDay quick question , some of my fav indies have designs with a zipper in the middle of the design , can a sewing machine sew through it if I move slowly ? I’d hate to lose some of my fav ones because they can’t work for me 😢

Just curious what size is her largest onesie that you used? I have a brand new granddaughter and I’d love to make one. And what was your finished size? Ps that quilt screams for Minky backing, so I see a longarm video coming.
@LeahDay
@LeahDay Жыл бұрын
The largest size was 18 month full body zipper suit things and they surprisingly yielded less fabric than you'd think. The widest strip in my quilt is 8 inches wide. My finished quilt ended up 47 inches square approximately. And yep, I was thinking Minky too - though planning on a home machine quilting focus... but not saying there won't be a frame involved!

What age should be considered while preparing the quilt.. I mean all 0-1 year or we can include after 1 year clothes also?
@LeahDay
@LeahDay 8 ай бұрын
That's entirely up to you! As your baby gets bigger, the clothing will get bigger, which means it will be easier to make a larger quilt and overall faster. I actually plan to use this same technique for my son so I think it will work even for very large t-shirts. Just make sure to follow my recommendation on quilting which you can find in the follow up video posted here: leahday.com/blogs/free/baby-clothes-quilt

How many onsies do we need to do the full size of the quilt?
@LeahDay
@LeahDay Ай бұрын
That's really hard to say. I'd start cutting up what you have, then begin piecing your foundation strips and see how far you get. The bigger the kid, the more fabric in the garments too, so this might be something to wait until you have a year or so of onesies ready to be sewn together.
