I'm using a quilt I recently made that has rectangles to be quilted. I am using this for my "sampler" for this project. I love using a variety of stitches. Thanks Leah for your suggestions and your videos.

Love this pattern. I am not one for busy quilting but i do like your technique on this style. Thank you. Maggie

Thank you Maggie! Just widen the space between the lines to simplify it. It will make the quilting stand out more on your quilt because fewer lines makes your eye catch them a bit more, but it will get done a LOT faster which is super nice.

How would you use this zig zag technique on a very large quilt? Seems like it would be difficult.
@LeahDay6 жыл бұрын
It all depends on where you put it in the quilt and how deep the direction changes. Always quilt from the center of the quilt outward so you never have more than 1/2 of the quilt in the machine at any time. You can really learn a lot more about this process in my class here: leahday.com/products/mega-star-walking-foot-workshop

Leah Day Thanks I will check that out. Like the zigzag look but most of my quilts are in the range of 90x90 inches.

It can be done on a large quilt. I just finished a large twin and quilted it completely on my home machine, using many of Leah's suggestions in her book and videos. Now and then, I would have a good 45" in my small space in my machine. I just had to go very very slowly, be very patient and adjust the quilt often. I also had to break thread more often to be able to stitch in a less crowded way. Give it a try.

For walking foot quilting? Yep, you can find it here: freemotionquilting.blogspot.com/2018/01/walking-foot-quilting-basics.html

The problem with the walking foot patterns is the difficult multiple turning of the quilt. Its easy on a small piece of fabric but I am having huge frustrations with the large quilt. Maybe show us on a full size quilt?

This sampler quilt is "Quilt As You Go", and the squares will be seamed together. Me, I do not attempt walking foot patterns that require more than minimal turning on anything larger than a 30 X 40 inch baby quilt, but Leah hints that her book has some clues for larger quilts, so go buy it!

I do have her book and have followed her free motion videos since I think 2011. Am doing the Quilt Along and my comment is referring to the Walking Foot quilting on large quilts, I love doing them on placemats etc.

I have been sharing videos of quilting a very large quilt on a home machine with walking foot quilting. You can find all the videos we've shared linked up right here: leahday.com/pages/2018-machine-quilting-party

Hi Leah. I am really enjoying your videos but you are beginning to lose me because you haven't been showing us how you start off with the pattern.
