When I first saw the video, I didn't look at any of the comments below. My first instinct was to roll up some paper towels like Ted C and shove them into the gasket. Immediately, I saw that it wasn't going to be very effective, so I went to Home Depot to see what I could find. I ended up buying the Frost King 1/2" x 20' Grey Poly Foam Caulk Saver Moisture Repellent (C22H) for about $3.50. It was easy to install and it worked great! Now that I look back on the whole incident, one of the signs (besides leaking water when I selected ice) that the ice dispenser wasn't working properly, was the fact that when I selected cubes (not crushed) the ice was coming out semi-crushed probably due to the ice damming on the bottom of the ice-maker as a result of the warmer air infiltration. As far as the operation of the refrigerator as a whole, I have no other complaints. Recently, my daughter had to buy another refrigerator and the salesman told her that he has seen increased returns for Samsung refrigerators in the past year and wasn't recommending them any longer.

Nice video and great insight/idea. I took a slightly different approach. I used the self adhesive weather stripping and stuck it to the outside in the fold of the gasket. Seems to have tightened the seal to the ice maker and added some insulation with nothing in the chamber with the ice. So far so good. If it comes loose, the foam is hollow and I could feed fishing line or something around the inside of the foam to secure the circle around the gasket. @@stevepeters9770 It definitely improved for awhile. My next step is to add that same weatherstrip around the opening to the icemaker connection when you pull out the entire ice bucket/tray assembly. OMG.Thanks so much for this suggestion. I am going to try it right now. We have had EIGHT repair visits, and it's the same old thing. You can replace components until hell freezes over (ha!) and the problem continues. There is an enormous amount of documentation all over the web, as well as a class action lawsuit filed in early 2017. This is a quick fix that is worth a try, and after a ton of research I have not seen it suggested elsewhere. I will report back with my results.

Went to Home Depot, purchased a bag of Backer Rod foam insulation rope, 1/2 inch diameter, cut a small piece off to fit under the entire gasket, and it worked like a charm, for a few days ! Then it started dripping again , and the dispensed ice cubes were small and watery . Took the ice bucket out, it was kind of stuck, had to almost force it out. Noticed a lot of ice about 1/2 inch thick where the fan intakes it's air, at the top back behind the ice bucket. Used a hair dryer for about 5 minutes to melt off all of the chunked up ice. Put ice bucket back, waiting about 1/2 hour for the unit to cool down & turn the ice maker back on, have my fingers crossed, will update this post later .

Thanks for the info. I just acquired one of these fridges, and am told it had an issue with leaking when the ice maker is turned off. I bought a roll of 1/2" diameter foam insulation rope and cut a piece to fit in where you put it. It make the seal much more sturdy, so I'm hoping it provided a better seal.

This is a great tip, as well as the person talking of caulking. What they mean is to pull the ice bin, shine a flashlight from below the ice bin up into the ice bin. Look in the ice bin, where you see light must but caulked. The fan is a known problem and the fan replacement unit is fully redesigned. All must have tips for this fix. Thank you everyone!

Samsung sent out repair man after much complaining. Besides the issue of the seal in this video the tech showed me how air is getting in to the ice compartment from the side wall inside the refrigerator. @gleb676
@gleb676 7 жыл бұрын
Actually you can use any material, just to make sure it expands the seal upward enough and stays in place. I guess I could have used something more suitable that bubble wrap, but that's what I found in the house at that time :) And yes, the entire seal can be replaced, but that involves $$$, and not sure if it helps, since the door could be just misaligned, and new seal won't seal the gap. Hope that helps.

I fixed my issue. I had to pull all of the components out of the ice maker (bin, ice maker, auger motor assembly. I sealed the edge of the ice maker where it butts against the refrigerator wall with caulk. I defrosted the whole ice maker to include the duct that runs from the fan to the inside of the ice maker. If you use a hairdryer, be careful as you can easily deform the plastic from heat (I did). I also did this trick in the video because my gasket had 'fallen' and was no longer sealing tight against the bottom of the ice maker. Now, I seem to be getting dry ice with no further buildup in the ice maker.

Some people posted here and also I found on the web that the core problem is ice maker fan assy. I haven't find time or money to do that yet, so will leave it as is.
