Thank you. I received the spider gasket for my valve with no instructions. alas I had a glued one so I was wondering what glue and how much to apply. So off to get a recommended glue. My. gasket. did not stay in place as nicely as yours so. any tips on how to hold in place while the glue dries?

Put the lid on. The spring will apply pressure and keep it fully in contact with the glue.

Excellent video and I’m about to do this but what is the glue you used? It didn’t look like that was any of the Loctites, which are more aggressive and could make removal of the gasket later a difficult task.

Loctite 416 can be used to bond rubber and plastic components like the parts used in this valve.

@@Inyopoolsunderstood but I’m trying to find an alternative or really a glue that’s equivalent, but easy to find locally which Loctite 416 is not easy to find, I just don’t want my pool sitting over 24 hrs without the pump running so I’m looking for something today, thanks in advance.

You can try silicone lube, which is very sticky, but it is not as effective as an adhesive. Loctite 416 is available in pool and hardware stores in our area. I don't know where you live, and even if I did, I don't know what specific products are available in your area. But you can go to a hardware store and ask for rubber to plastic adhesives.

Hello! I hope all is well with you folks! I just bought a new sp0714t pureline pool filter handle assembly and diverter from you guys. I noticed a screw is unable to be tightened as I screw the product in. It appears there is nothing for it to grip onto. All the other screws went in just fine. Am I able to still use the filter and run the pool?

I save old toothbrushes and use them to clean thing's like this. Your cup ideal is great, put some WD-40 in the cup and clean the bolts with the toothbrush. A spray bottle of bleach water and a disinfectant wipe is great for exposed area cleaning. Thank You for your helpful video's. $77.00 advise😐

Pick out the bits of the gasket that can be removed. Then, I would suggest using a solvent like Acetone or anything you could find in a hardware store that is applicable to the surfaces.

On my tm22, it was glued all around in the most impressive way. We ended up chiseling it out with a sharp screwdriver, then using hand sanitizer to clean the adhesive while scraping with the screwdriver. The video made it look deceptively easy. It took us about 2 hours. Don't forget to rinse and dry the hand sanitizer off the surface before applying the superglue.

@@chrismdad Took me about 2 hours also. It was like a "tire patch" vulcanized to the groove surfaces. Like a thick rubber band melted into the grooves. Like a... It is hard to describe. Terrible pain staking job but I conquered it. That is always a good feeling. Ha

excellent find, this video. may save me a good deal of $$. question: how can one tell if the gasket requires adhesive or not? this is my first time doing it, and it's on a filter/valve that came with the house (American Multiport Valve brand) years ago.

You don't have to use adhesive when installing the spider gasket but it does help. We recommend using an RTV silicone adhesive. This way, the spider gasket is easy to remove in the future. Remember to let the adhesive dry for 24 hours before running water through the valve.

thank you for your response. the video shows dabs of adhesive at the spoke junctions with the outside ring. would you recommend also a bit along the spokes? that's one of the things messed up with our gasket, spokes warping up. thanks again!

There’s a pool that has DE powder on pool floor, If i floor- vaccum to waste and put back in filter mode, can a messed up gasket cause for some of the de to come back into the pool ?

My problem is water is flowing out of the top .at the bottom of the handle where you turn .will the spider gasket stop the leak or is it a different gasket?

If water is leaking from the multiport valve's handle stem hole, the issue is a stem o-ring or a dislodged washer/spring problem. You can find your valve's parts diagram and replacement parts here - www.inyopools.com/pool_part_cat_Filter_Valve_Parts.aspx

It's not required to "glue" the spider gasket in place. You definitely do not want to use glue if you do. However, you can use some RTV silicone to help it stay in place. If you use RTV silicone, let it dry for 24 hours before running water through the valve.

It's most likely a teflon lube to ensure the valve's diverter glides smoothly over the gasket.

My variflo valve has no serial or mode number, only pat number and I have not been successful in finding a replacement gasket. Even searching up the sand filter this sucks the one I change at work takes seconds I feel like I’m just wasting money on trying to see if a gasket fits. The pool stores couldn’t help me out either

Inyo Pools Hey, one more thing to ask and tell you. I closed our backwash valve to see if our pool was still losing water, to see if it was the spider gasket and we are still losing water with the backwash valve closed. So, do you think it could be to replace the spider gasket or do we have another problem? Right now as I type this I will see if we are losing water with the pump turn off...not sure on that yet...if we arent losing water with the pump turned off is that a good thing meaning nothing major?

Hi. my pool is not suctioning enough to be properly cleaned or to move the robot. the pump is good and ducts are good, nothing clugged. The valve though, even in filtering position seems to be in waste or backwash position. the water level goes low and dirt is returned thru ducts. any advice?

Which side of the spider gasket goes up?

One side of the spider gasket usually has a bump or lip that runs across the face of it. That's the side that should be facing outwards. The opposite flat side of the gasket should be sat in the gasket groove.

My hayward sand filter only 4 years old tried to replaced the spider gasket it was glued in there so hard impossible to get it out. I had to take it to the pool store they charged me $75 3 hours of work they said it took to remove. If I were to do it again call a guy to fix it unless you know the thing is easy to remove could be the first time factory vulcanized it in

Yes, there is that word vulcanized. Exactly what mine was. I cleaned the grooves about 98%. I do not think a sand blaster would have done any good on that last little bit still clinging on in there. After 2 hours I said to myself, that's close enough.

+Scott Huotari You can buy your basic gasket lube anywhere, it does not have to be pool-specific. Go to a hardware store and ask for silicon or teflon lube.

Most often when not seated properly the gasket will move out of place and the valve will leak or not function correctly. It may even cause further damage to it.

+v mann I would not suggest using Super Glue as a gasket adhesive as it would make the job of replacing the gasket in the future extremely hard. If you wish to use an adhesive other than Loctite, I suggest using an RTV Silicone Adhesive which will secure the gasket but will make for easy removal for the next gasket installation

Why did they design a gasket that "needs glue" at all???? Terrible design flaw in such a critical component to any pool. Deeper seating area for gasket would make sense!! Then just press it in to place, lube it up, and you are good to go. But no, get glue, glue gasket, wait 24 hrs, and hope the gasket doesn't roll out of channel when turning handle to backwash. Brilliant!! This is the biggest POS design I have seen in a while. Please someone re-design this aspect of the multi-port valve and I will buy one immediately! That is my rant for today! Enjoy!

The locktite is a "industrial grade".....hope you never have to pull a gasket free of it....easier to replace the valve than do that.

We had this problem before and replacing the spider gasket fix the problem but we now have a new sand filter we got several years ago and wonder if the wear and tear might have caused a link from our pool?
