LEAN MANUFACTURING - Kardex Storage

We are always looking to continuously improve and better ourselves and the best way to do this is by Lean thinking. We installed our new state of the art Kardex Storage Elevator for all our inventory, which by going up saved us roughly 1500 sq ft of floor space for new machinery.
We must always look to reinvesting in our company and continually prove to our customers that we are continually improving and updating to not only meet their needs and wants but to exceed them.

I use a kardex system at work. I love it! I have yet to find a thing I'd like to see changed, apart from speed. But that is true with any component of life. 2 installed and we're getting a 3rd. I can't wait.

That's some pretty extreme storage density; this reminds me of the door storage system from Monsters Inc.

Is there any documented issues of fires that have occurred with the Kardex machines?

In my area we are required to cut a hole in the top for a sprinkler head. They require this even though we've never seen a fire. The company that installs the sprinkler systems did one time drop the sprinkler too low (the first time this was required), and it got hit by the extractor and flooded the machine. It is possible I suppose, but extremely unlikely to see a fire. I have seen some places where rodents got into part of the machine. If wires get chewed and cause a short, then it is possible this could cause a fire the same as any piece of equipment. Under normal circumstances or with normal wear and tear part failures, fire is not something to really be concerned about. In my area, we also construct them earthquake-safe with extra thick concrete or steel plates beneath them. We often joke that in the event of an earthquake, the safest thing would be to sit in the access opening of the machine.
