Asus ROG phone has the option to map buttons on screen yeah, sadly as all ROG have the USB socket in left bottom, so the mobile phone doesnt center in the handheld, so I believe they designed it so people not owning a ROG Phone would be able to use it, not making it exclusive like the Kunai range I-3 for 2 generation of ROG phones each)

I had a PR agent from ASUS let me know that indeed, this controller is designed more with mainstream market in mind and not exclusively their ROG phones. Kunai 3 is so good, I wouldn’t blame them if they tried a Kunai 4 but I think too many people would be turned off by the high price tag, especially on a market where many options now exist. They didn’t before.

I have the RoG Kunai 3 and my phone no longer recognizes the right controller. I've seen in several forums that a lot of people have this problem, possibly because of a firmware update or something else. There is still no solution for this to this day. That's why I think this product is the better variant for the Rog phone. I ordered it today.

G8+ is hard to beat but if you want something that is constantly tethered and don’t mind the offset USB-C, I think EasySMX M15 would be a huge contender as well!

Love the videos! Was looking at this because it seems a little more permissive on using the phone with bigger cases. Have you looked at if there are any better alternatives that could accomodate a case like the UBMag XT for s24 ultra?

I would agree to that, and I had a whole section talking about the connector protruding out and the plastic square being removable but I cut it as I felt the video was better without it. While I can't say specifically about the UBMag XT, it is indeed one of the better "case compatible" Android controllers out there. The connector sticks out, you can actually see when I use it with the Edge just how much clearance there still is and the depth accepts about a cm and half, more than most controllers I've seen. Thank you! Right now, it’d be a toss between the G8+ and M15 from EasySMX. They both have great advantages but for different reasons. If you don’t mind something mega versatile (that needs to be charged) G8+. If you want something plug n play that will work specifically for phones? I’d say go M15.

I personally think they should. I’d love to see ASUS tackle something like the Kishi Ultra/GameSir G8 instead. But if they stay in the small form factor lane, they need to revisit some things for their controller and the gimmick of the Tessen would be best left alone if they can’t improve on some of the basic features as far as I am concerned.

as alway, i don't think asus put mfi on it. so it mean even with ip 15pm u still can't use this controller. a traditional from previous kunai 2 & 3.

This controller does not work at all on iPhones. While you could connect it, the iPhone will block it well before entry. Unless you have access to the inner working of the iOS and are a superb skilled hacker, don't buy this, it will not work.

If there is, I have not seen nor heard of it. I feel like it’s something we might have seen on Etsy but I doubt this controller is popular enough. There ought to be case that would work perfectly for this though. I’d put my money on a custom case for the DJI Mic carry case. Good luck, let me know if you find something!

@grillitdaddy Neither of those GameSir controllers will hold an 11 or 12 inch tablet. There really isn't any controller for tablets above 9/10 inches, it sucks! There is ONE, the ipega-PG-9083S. I think its decent for the price ($35) minus the dpad. Thumbsticks are surprisingly good!

@@zerocal76 there are two controllers , BSP D9 is able to open to 12.4" tablet, very complete (Xinput Mode, switch Mode, dual sense Mode etc) , but the BEST is GameSir G8 Plus Galileo , G8 plus, opens even more Up to 15" tablets due to the springs extensible and , it does not need any mod.

The Galileo G8 and G8+ easily do, so does the X2s from GameSir. The abxylute S9 still unreleased but coming in a few weeks hopefully should up to y700 tablets. The BSP D8 / D9 / D10 controllers can as well but they are a bit on the cheaper side.

That controller had a family! And I'm sure they were disappointed in it too. What's not disappointing is this review. Excellent job bringing the heat. What's the point of this controller? You mentioned in the video that maybe it has some special features when paired with a ROG Phone. It might, I don't know. However, don't the ROG Phones still have that offset USB port? If you tried to use one of those phones with this controller it'd look stupid because half of the phone would be sticking out above the controller while the bottom half of the controller would be a gaping cavity. I can't imagine the resulting screwy weight balance would feel good in the hand either. It seems odd that Asus would make an expensive first party controller that supports their in-house phone in the most janky way possible. I'd understand if that gave clearance for their cooler attachment; but, I don't think it does. Weird. If it's not really for ROG Phone owners than who is it for? Are there really that many ROG superfans out there who are willing to pay big bucks for everything ROG, except for their phones? I think this controller is cool; but, not for $120 something. Like you said; there's so many markedly better options for less money. I guess they know their market better than I do and I wish them luck.

ASUS have been tasting the result of their own undoing lately but I do think a lot of people still trust the quality to be good and above average. I believe it. Still, this device, even if it was the best quality ever, is so feature poor... It is baffling that they have the audacity to charge this steep a price. I can't help but think this is an R&D failure that they decided to just move away from but not before trying to cut their losses by releasing a product nearly DOA compared to what the market has become. You do raise a fair point with the ROG Phone... Maybe that was the initial goal but they realized they need to move inventory immediately? Because truthfully, I can't see this product last even a year in relevancy? If I had produced this product in this market's landscape, I'd capitalize on the now, raise prices cause I have brand recognition, catch a few fish and move on... As you said, they know their market better but if I was a betting man, I'd expect this product to be heavily discounted on Black Friday. 30 to 50% off. We'll see! :)

The brand has some value; but, from a pure utilitarian "I just want something to play my emulator games with" standpoint at what price point does it become worth the money, in your opinion? If it ever does? Maybe those $15 BSP telescopic controllers are better built? I don't know; but, it'd be hilarious if they were.

ROG phone 7 user here. It actually works well with ROG phone offset USB c. Because of it, the headphone jack is placed above the controller, so it's still useable with phone in the controller

It isn't without third-party software. PUBG does not officially support controllers. And since ASUS does not supply a mapping software, you must find your own tools like Octopus or Mantis but be careful, using controllers on PUBG can get you banned or flagged as cheating.

😅 I literally use Razer Kishi V2 with COD Mobile on a iPhone 15 Pro Max and it detects it and works flawlessly, idk whatyu talking about? It even work connecting it usb c to usb c, from the passthrough port of the V2 to the iPhone 15 Pro max and it still works, helped my play with a Cooler attached while my Aileron came from the mail.

Ok. Allow me to explain, what I say about CODMobile only working with Backbone is exclusive when using Android, not iOS and iPhone. iPhone is different, it uses it's own controller API and converts SOME controllers that it allows in. It is the exact same reason why on iPhones, you can use any controller for PS remote play. If you don't know, on Android, you cannot. Your Razer Kishi V2? On Android, it doesn't work with Remote Play, on iOS and iPhones, same controllers? It does. It may be the same controller, but it's not working under the same protocol layer. So when I say COD Mobile only works on Backbone, I'm talking specifically about android phones, not iPhones. Cheers and thanks for watching!

@@GameTechTalk damn, that explains why I can play PS5 FC 24 on my iPad with an Xbox Series Controller. It makes my smile a lot. PS5 would never allow you to connect an Xbox controller to it, even wired. 😅
