I totally agree with your assessment of how the controller feels in your hands. I thought with time, my hands would get used to the ergonomics but I just kept cramping up just like you stated. I really wanted to like this one but I ended up going back to the V2.

The top mappable buttons (alt triggers as you call them) are positioned for claw players. That's why it feels weird to you when you hold it the conventional grip.

Makes absolute sense. Gotta say though, I kind like the "alt trigger" approach too. It's like a hair trigger that you never need to move the button aside. That's how I'll keep my mapping for the future.

Appreciate your review brother! I just can’t get comfortable with this controller. Hands feel extremely cramped and the second I hold my Vader 4 Pro it instantly feels better. While the back buttons are miles better along with those additions top buttons, my performance is just worse overall and I’ll probably be returning it

I knew I couldn’t be crazy, the ergonomics is different on this controller. You’re not the first person to comment that they cramp with it. I’m debating what to do myself tbh. One moment I’m like: “It has so much potential” and the next, I grab another controller, Vader 4 Pro or else and I’m like: “Yup this is 99%, all that’s missing are the cramps” 😅

@@GameTechTalk Exactly! The left thumbstick is closer to the D Pad than a lot of controllers and the grips are so short that it forces my fingers to position themselves in an uncomfortable position. I think the roundness and lack of depth on the back of the grips also contributes to this.

I immediately returned the Victrix Pro BFG due to quality issues (BAD wireless latency and how can you get stick drift with hall effect?!) and picked this one up instead. Could not be happier with the purchase. Everything is smooth and responsive (and I do not have any issues with the sticks) and wireless connection to the Xbox via dongle is great with no noted lag. Is it spendy? Yes. Have I spent more than $200 on replacement Xbox controllers due to stick drift? Absolutely. If this controller helps me NOT spend any more on controllers, the $200 was worth it.

Hey there! As I consider you as an expert in the field of game controllers I wanted to ask your professional opinion on what is according to you the BEST asymmetrical controller for a PS5? I am bugged by a gamer thumb (RSI) on both left and right hand which is spoiling my gaming fun due to the pain. I suspect the PS5 dualsense ergonomics to be one of the root causes as I did not experience this with my Elite controller on the Xbox. That's why I am looking for an alternative controller that mimics the xbox button and thumbsticks layout. Any advice on this?
@GameTechTalk
@GameTechTalk 12 сағат бұрын
Ohhh that one is TOUGH! Because on PS5, the one issue is that Sony keeps an extremely tight hold and has good anti-counterfeit measure meaning that you can't just bring any controller on PS5, it's gotta be licensed OR you can use a tool which I'll soon review on the channel called the P5Mate. Now, the tough part is, you have extremely limited options that are asymmetrical that'll work on PS5, one exception is the BFG Victrix, the other thing you could do is get a P5Mate, buy an Xbox controller and literally plug that into the P5Mate and bam, you have an Xbox controller that works on PS5 but you don't have rumble. So the takeaway is, it is feasible but you will be sacrificing features such as adaptive triggers and haptic feedback in exchange of having asymmetrical, if you are ok with that, there are a handful options. The Victrix BFG, the Razer Wolverine V2 Pro, the Nacon Revolution to name a few. Cheers, hope this helps!

I had the exact same experience as you. This is the closest thing to the absolute perfect controller for me but the way it makes you place your hands is a deal breaker for me. Holding it like I do with my elite series 2 led to fatigue on my middle fingers where the controller rests just below the triggers. Such a shame because I love everything else about this controller.

Not gonna lie, I appreciate the validation that I wasn't crazy ahahaha! I just got the v3 wired today and have mixed feelings. I thought at first, it felt comfy to hold. But the more I play, the more I find myself having to shift my hands around because of discomfort. Razer made the shape way too curved with the grips. I ordered the vader 4 pro as well, but it's delayed and should be here Wednesday so I can try them side by side. There's so many good things about the V3, but if it's not comfortable to hold, then nothing else really matters. I find myself sitting the controller down during cutscenes just to relax my hands. That's not a good sign lol. Tons of testing to do in space marine 2 with the V3 and the vader 4. I think the wolverine v1 tournament edition is still the best controller razer has produced. It's a shame they discontinued it. My brother is still using his V1 after like 4 years, and he has a backup V1 that we found on ebay last year. He has worn the stick rubber off and face button letters, but the thing is still going. It has 2 back buttons that don't get in your way of gripping the controller, but also are still easy to hit. And those top extra 2 buttons are nice to have. It was a nearly perfect controller. I'm not a big fan of 4 buttons of the V3 being in the way of where I need to grip the controller. Lots of accidental button presses. When I had a elite series 2, I only used the top 2 paddles. Maybe I'll love the vader 4.

As much as I like the gamepad in general, I've never understood the sensitivity clutch thing. The Xbox Elite and even Steam let you adjust the sensitivity curves of the sticks, giving you extra speed in games like Bad Company 2 or Battlefield 1943, even Sea of Thieves originally, where even at max sensitivity the look around speed was a little slow. Why you needed to surrender a button function to turn on the clutch was difficult to understand -- when Steam lets you aim down sights and adjust the aim sensitivity at the same time with the L-Trigger. That said, I am looking forward to getting my Wolverine V3 -- that they have finally made common sense "back paddles" for the thing is fantastic ... if a little late to the party. Plus the hall effect sticks, this one should be pretty great to have 😁

I've been looking at this controller as a solution to thumb issues that make it tough for me to play games on controllers without causing pain. Razer seems to be the only ones making controllers like these that let me rebind all four face buttons plus both thumbstick clicks off of my thumbs. The Wolverine Ultimate has been a game changer for me because of its six extra buttons, but it's still not great because when they went to four paddles instead of two, they changed them from the comfortable and easy mouse click switches to what feels like very stiff metal dome switches (like the joycon face buttons), along with a very stiff d-pad that wear out my fingers quickly. With all of that out of the way, I had some questions if you have time to answer that I've been struggling to find answers to: 1. Are all of the extra 6 buttons using the same softer clicky switches as the face buttons? It sounds like only the extra paddles are and not the two extra bumpers, which would be odd since those have always had the mouse click. 2. How easy are the extra back paddles/bumpers to press? Do they feel stiff at all? 3. Texture aside, how's the dpad? Does it feel stiff at all, or is it easy to press and hold? Does it have any kind of click-like feedback or is it a bit rubbery? Thanks a bunch of you're able to answer any of these.
@GameTechTalk
@GameTechTalk Ай бұрын
1. The back paddles feel like microswitches with short travel. The two top bumpers feel more like tactile dome switches but, they do have a rather not stiff feeling at all compared to many dome switches I've felt. 2. They are all very easy to press overall. 3. The D-pad is ok, not great but definitely serviceable. It wouldn't be my goto for strictly fighting games but if it was my main driver, I would learn to get better with it, rather than pull out another one. If I was serious or competitive specifically about fighting games, I'd look elsewhere literally.

@@Leap623 Definitely not too stiff. I don't think it's what the problem is. Or maybe it's not stiff enough? The way I perceive it is that they are super responsive tactile buttons, too responsive that is. When gliding from say a "dragon punch" from Street Fighter 2, the register comes so quickly that it's hard to get it consistent for the game to properly register the command. To do so, it's as if you'd have to accelerate the movement but doing so potentially causes more input errors and those little arrows on the d-pad tend to rub harshly on the skin over time. It's not a bad d-pad by any means, but for me personally, I've seen much better.

@GameTechTalk
@GameTechTalk Ай бұрын
Ouf that is a great question but I can tell you that it definitely was spoofed as an Xbox controller so there is absolutely ZERO reasons for the controller to not work on Windows 10. With that said, there are two modes on the controller, 1000hz, and the other is regular 250hz, one was spoofed, the other wasn't. So you may be locked to one mode but I don't think it'll be a problem since both modes rely on the same protocol, while not being spoofed per say.

So I can only really speak about the Wolverine V3 Pro and I will say, the more time I spend with it, the more it seems to sink it's teeth into my admiration. It's just not imminently obvious, because it commands a certain approach. But I'm getting there and much like I addressed in the video, it's an intentful controller and when used right, it feels as though it'll unlocks a new tier of controller gaming. It's certainly interesting.

It's nice; but, it's way out of my price range. If I'm dropping $200 on "gaming" then it's going to be for a full blown Android handheld of some sort. I'm really, really smitten with that new Anbernic RG406V for $160ish. The Retroid Pocket 4 Pro and Anbernic RG556 are priced around $200, the same as this Razer controller. I get that I'm comparing apples to poutine here; but, I compare these things because I have a discreet budget for gaming + entertainment and all of these otherwise disparate gaming things fall under that heading. A new $200 handheld is a much better value FOR ME than a $200 controller. If I had Tony Beets' gold mining money, I'd be all over this like the Maple Leafs are on not winning a Cup. I'm not going to lie; it looks awesome and it has the GTT Seal of Approval. Those are big pluses in my book. I just can't afford it. Or, more accurately, I can afford it; however, my entertainment and gaming budget will then be busted all to heck because I'll need to rob from future me to buy this Razer for current me. I just can't justify it. I liked this review. If I were smart I'd delete everything else I've typed and just leave that. It's short, sweet, and to the point. I'm not smart though. Haha.

For anyone who cares. Got mine today. Inputs already stick before an hour of play and I hate the back button layout. The two small ones are great for me but the others force you to grip a certain way. Not like gamesir g7 apex4 or elites. They have better layout on the back.
