I've never heard anyone explain fingerspelling with sounding out the letters! I have struggled with fingerspelling because when someone spells something to me I lose track of the letters as I try to remember all of them. But this new method allowed me to interpret almost every word on the first try! thank you for this!

ASL is so much fun! And it is the most beautiful language! I have finally convinced my friend to learn as well! I told her about your videos, but she can't turn on captions on her phone, so she is doing something else. I take show choir for my elective, so my throat hurts really bad afterwards , so me and my friend sign to each other. Us spelling to each other has made other people want to learn who were around us. They are like "Is that sign language? I wish i could learn! I think i will look up some of the words to see if i'm interested." These days everyone wants to learn Spanish or French, which are great languages, yes, but not many people actually commit to learning sign language, so i am so happy that my school mates want to learn! Also this lesson really helped! Thanks again!

Miss_Broadway. The best part of learning sign language is signing to my friends who don't know sign language and them getting so frustrated. :')

Your videos are great. I just discovered them recently and I've already been recommending them to some of my friends who are new to sign language. I like your pace. You don't rush through things or assume that your viewers should already know the basics. Helps to establish a good foundation to build on. Keep up the good work!

Latley when I fingerspell most of my letters face side ( ex; d instead of having it foward like you I have it facing where the person would see it like we would on a page. Same goes for o. Also when I do m I bring the 3 fingers all the way over my thumb is that ok? Also when I do q ( I'm Gonna do my best to describe it) I have it like a p but with my thumb parallel to my index finger and my hand horizontal. I learned these before I found this so I'm wondering if those r wrong ( the way I learned )

Same. I'm in 6th grade and I found her channel one weekend with insomnia. I didn't know what to do so I just decided to learn a language. 6 hours of that in 1 night. It was fun.

Great help. Ever since I met my deaf and HH friends, I've had to spell to communicate with them and likewise they with me, while I built my vocabulary. I started spelling the entire alphabet all the time-- behind my back, at my side, during class until eventually I started spelling my thoughts all throughout the day and now I can fingerspell a word (5 letter) a second. Still, watching this video really put things into perspective, as I heard myself sounding out the words like a three year old, and sometimes I had to go back because you signed them too quickly (I could tell you signed them slower than normally). My receptive fingerspelling skills definitely need work but I am getting somewhere

If anyone needs more practice, try handspeak.com! It has a section dedicated to helping you interpret hand letters. It also has the culture of asl, a dictionary, sentence translations, etc.

I'm loving these videos and I am loving my teacher lol. IDK if the eye candy is making me learn too fast (or distracting me) Anyhoo: This is what I got. She signed 27 words. (Or at least that's how many I caught) and they are: cat, bat, cab, gab, ham, add, pen, men, rip (kinda confused me cuz it almost looked like a Y in the middle), sip, wit (got confused again lol), bob, cob, jog, old, boo, mom, rug, tug, gum, hum, lot, tot, cow, dog, pan, few. I'm still learning so If I got one wrong, please correct me lol. I'm doing these videos everyday and I am so damn hyped to keep learning.
