I first learnt the Ping Kuen in 2003, it is a Choy Li Fut Kung Fu form from the King Mui branch. Ping Kuen means level hand form and is one of the eight important forms. For two weeks in 2010 I travelled to King Mui village for correction on all eight important forms. Chan Sun Chiu the Keeper of King Mui Choy Li Fut gave me his precise and priceless correction.

Dear grandmaster willcott I'm saying do you know Choy Li Fut's horse style hand form (Ma Ying Kuen) if you do it love to see you demonstrate it, because I read a article about it's difficult kicks as jong-geuk uplifting kick and sin-geuk sliding leg, and fan-geuk back reverse kick like the tiger tail kick. Awesome 👍

Thank you for your comment, @anthonyblake4035! Your enthusiasm for the Choy Li Fut's horse style hand form (Ma Ying Kuen) is truly inspiring. I appreciate your interest in its intricate techniques, including the challenging kicks such as jong-geuk uplifting kick, sin-geuk sliding leg, and fan-geuk back reverse kick, reminiscent of the tiger tail kick. The horse style form indeed presents a dynamic array of techniques that demonstrate the diversity and complexity of Choy Li Fut. While I haven't covered this form in my videos yet, I'll take your suggestion into consideration for future demonstrations. Keep up your dedicated practice, and if you have any further questions or insights, feel free to share.

It is good to raise these questions. Perhaps you or anyone else could illuminate us: At what point can a student claim a teacher and vice versa? For example once you start training in a class do you become a student of the head instructor? Or is there a particular ritual for this to happen. What is the difference between a student and a disciple?

Lohan Martial Arts Sir In 日本の武道(にほんのぶどう) Nihon no Budo or Japanese Martial Arts there is 血判(けっぱん) Keppan or the Blood Oath. You would use your own blood and your 印鑑(いんかん) Inkan or family seal to sigh your pledge to that 先生(せんせい) Sensei and to that 流(りゅう) Ryu or style. Then you could become a 弟子(でし) Deshi or disciple. Thank you for sharing this video and your thoughts with us. Osu

***** Choy Li fut Sir When we train in 武道(ぶどう) Budo or the Martial Arts we should have enough respect for ourselves to be respectful to others. As a beginner in 武道(ぶどう) Budo or Martial Arts self respect and respecting others was one of the first things we learned. When one is a 有段者(ゆうだんしゃ) Yudansha or Black Belt we should also have a stronger since of civility. We feel that 武道 Budo is not just about learning 技(わざ) Waza or techniques but also on how to be a better person within our society. If someone wants to join a Chinese Martial Arts cult or any other cult that is on them. I was not promoting that or even talking about that. I was simply explaining what 血判(けっぱん) Keppan is and talking about 弟子(でし) Deshi or disciple. We feel that 武道 Budo should be a vehicle to bring people together.Thank you for your time.

***** Sir 武芸十八版 (じゅうはっぱん) Juhappan or the "18 Martial Arts" that are the base for Japanese Martial Arts came from China. The 漢字(かんじ) kanji that I am writing in comes from China as well. If we understand 武道(ぶどう) Budo or 武术 Wushu (in Chinese) we will understand that we are from an extended family. Sometimes it helps us to better understand our art by trying to understand other arts and how we share similar things.

***** Sir On 12/03/2016 at 07:55 AM I stated " I was simply explaining what 血判(けっぱん) Keppan is and talking about 弟子(でし) Deshi or disciple." I did not not say anything about what I did or what I did not do. Each style of Martial Arts and each school has its own requirements. I can not talk about for example 蔡李佛 or Choy Li Fut and the requirements to be a disciple. Maybe you can. And maybe you could also post some videos of you training in 蔡李佛. Thank you for your time.

Thank you for your input, @anthonyblake4035! You're absolutely right. The Ping Kuen form in Choy Li Fut is indeed longer than the Snake form (Seh Ying Kuen), consisting of 158 moves compared to the Snake form's 99 moves. This showcases the diversity and depth of techniques within Choy Li Fut Kung Fu. Keep up the great work in your practice and exploration of these forms! If you have any more insights or questions, feel free to share.

you could still be a student and be a disciple. it depends on how serious the individual is willing to study every movement and accuracy on how to execute it. you don't have to pay a lot of money to learn you just need to practice, pay attention to every detail and feel it. think feel and become the spirit as one.

Thank you Neil. Great video. This version of Ping Kuen is slightly different from our Chan Family version, but I also like it. There is a mistake in the video start: Chan Koon Pak was the son of Chan Yiu-Chi, and not the other way around.

I'm glad you enjoyed the video and found it interesting, even though it may differ slightly from the Chan Family version you are familiar with. @@Choy-Li-Fut-Kung-Fu - thank you so much! I am curious about one thing; I see a lot of similarity between Choy Li Fut and Pigua Zhang, in terms of the large-scale, sweeping arm strikes. I'm given to understand that Choy Li Fut was a later-era Chinese system, cobbled together by the best of the best in order to train effective fighters as quickly as possible. Do you think Pigua may have influenced Choy Li Fut? If not, where do those large arm movements come from, especially in light of how Choy Li Fut is associated with southern systems?

What branch of Choy Lee Fut do you practice? That's not Chan Family Choy Lee Fut (I can tell by how you move and execute the techniques). I also know b/c I'm certified Hung Sing Gwoon under Grand Master Chan Yong Fa (I train under an Inner Disciple and an International Master of Master Chan). Take care!

So just to be clear, my original question wasn't meant to be disrespectful. I was merely confused (legitimately and sincerely confused) by the fact that the phrase "King Mui branch" existed in the above description of the video. King Mui is the birth place of Choy Lee Fut, and Master Chan's family home is there. I know that the Ping Kuen in the video isn't Master Chan's version, so I was confused which branch this came from given that it stated King Mui. When Lohan Martial Arts graciously responded that this was more of a derivative of Doc-fai Wong, that clarified things for me b/c that is an offshoot of Chan Family Choy Lee Fut. Further, not that I feel the need to legitimize myself, but to put your mind at ease, I originally began studying under Inner Disciple Wojciech Konopka years ago. I moved away for a time and when I returned, I continued to study under International Master Gary Lee. I assure you we have the credentials, but I'm not on here to boast about that or to start a "war". I asked a question, it was graciously answered, and that's the end of it. I think you should focus more on your training and less on starting a "style war". That is all. May the Lord bless you and may you find success in your training.

Just to help clear this up, Niel learned the Ping Kuen form in 2003 from Doc-Fai Wong (5th generation CLF) and later in 2010 was corrected on this form by Chan Sun Chiu (4th generation). Chan Sun Chiu was taught from the age of 4 by his farther Chan Yiu-Chi the grandson of the founder. What makes you thing that Chan Sun Chiu would not be superior to DFW. What would you say if you learn that DFW was also learning from Chan Sun Chiu at the time.

I read the description. It just said he got corrections there, and masters do change over time. I've been doing this for 30 years and have never liked this obsession with lineage, as in who taught who and who is better. All he did was give thanks to someone that corrected him.

I studied under Doc-Fai Wong. There is no denying that he knows his stuff. That's not in debate. I just have never agreed with this obsession with lineage. All Neil did was give his appreciation for having his material corrected. That's all he did.
