Qazi, you think you're making a video for a noob but I know intermediate and pro users come here for your nuggets. This was useful

In this tutorial you go with ACES. In most other tuts you are working in DaVinci WG/ DaVinci Intermediate. Sometimes you use CST nodes and sometimes you change the "input color space" on a node without a CST node. Why does the consistency change?
@piernicolaarena93612 жыл бұрын
I would LOVE to know the exact same thing. I'm a bit confused by the inconsistency of information on this part of the workflow. Also...say I'm working in Davinci Color Managed WG and i want to do a color space transform to something different like Fujifilm. How am I supposed to do properly? I always get weird results from any input color space/gamma and output color space I dial in...
@theqazman2 жыл бұрын
There is no ONE way to do this. I am always going to be showing different ways so you get to pick what works best for you.
@piernicolaarena93612 жыл бұрын
@@theqazman thanks for replying. I get what you say, although i've seen a lot of videos showing the different techniques (davinci color management, CST, etc...), but none explaining if i can use davinci color management AND CST together. For instance: I've a shot filmed in Braw, I set Davinci Color Management to Davinci Wide Gamut / Intermediate and output to rec709. Then I want to use CST to convert my clip to something like fujifilm. No matter what I dial in the CST menu (input color space,/gamma, output color space/gamma)...I NEVER get something thata looks quite right. I'm wandering what am I doing wrong. You told me to watch the free 1-hour-training and i did it, but i'm still not sure i'm doing it right.
@fujicinema2 жыл бұрын
@@piernicolaarena9361 I wouldn't put the project in Davinci wide gamut. For me I usually leave the project color settings alone if I'm looking to use a cst. That way I know what color input I should use for the cat because it's based on the camera and not being changed by the projects color settings. For example since I shoot on a Fujifilm xt3 I leave the projects color settings alone and use the cst only. For the inputs I use rec 2020 and Fujifilm f-log because that is the profile my camera records. Then for my outputs I usually use rec 709 and gamma 2.4 or sometimes cineon film log for davinci's luts. I hope this kind of helps. It's a bit much but that's my workflow since f-log isn't part of aces yet. Also extra tip - use saturation compression if colors begin to clip if you're using cineon film log. Hope this helped!!

Hi Qazi, bro, may I ask you something? When you color grade a short movie, where the actors move, turn faces, make gestures, do you cut the scenes in 5-10 seconds, so you can apply the grading, mask etc easily? Or you can grade a shot with different camera positions in the scene so the angles may change? Now I don't watch movies... I examine them 😂👍
@fujicinema2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure exactly what you're asking, but I would cut the movie based on the story since that's most important, but for color grading I would try to find a hero shot that uses most of the elements in the frame so I can properly dial in the colors for the scene. Hope that helped! And I love examining movies too😂 especially lighting, composition, and story!
