@@pickmixgamer OBS works fine on laptops, but it does depend on what your trying to do. Laptops are generally less robust, and if your planning to obs alongside playing a game that heavily stresses your laptop, yer gonna have a bad time :)

Was looking for a recording application for my webcam, little did I know that Windows 10 comes with a simple one. Anyway down the rabbit hole I go and stumbled on OBS and now a few hours later I'm just completely amazed by the program!! @Greek Goddess I’m still learning the ins and outs of OBS but hopefully I can provide more insight. 1) I may be wrong but your hardware/internet may not be powerful enough to support your stream settings for your cam/game. 2) You might have to add your game as an audio source(unsure on this). You can also download voice meter banana/potato (for free) and route your game audio/mic audio/desktop audio with more control. It will be complicated at first but there are some helpful tutorials. 3) I don’t use OBS for gameplay but there are plugins to have comments show on OBS. You may need a second monitor if you want to play in full screen and have OBS up at the same time. 4) when adding an audio input source select the appropriate microphone. I too have watched a billion OBS tutorials and guides but there’s always something unexpected when using it.

I'm an intermediate user of OBS for almost a year now. This tutorial would have saved me a couple of months to understand the settings and possibilities of OBS. However, I have one problem with recording framerate. I want to capture a 25fps (PAL Europe). When I set the capture framerate to 25, then the resulting video looks really stuttery. I think it has something to do with frame timing, because when I analyse the video frame by frame, I see some duplicate frames, which makes the video not nice to watch to. I bypassed this issue by recording a 25fps source with 100fps recording. This gives me for every frame 4 identical ones. Sometimes 5 identical. Then in my editing software (VideoReDo Suite), I have to set a start point of the video on the 3rd identical frame to do a successful detelecine from 100fps to the correct 25fps (I use Handbrake for that). So for 25fps I have a solution, but what to do for 23,976 fps or 29,97 fps sources? And how does it come there are frame timing errors? My monitor is 144Hz (FreeSync) but set to 100Hz, my graphics card is a GeForce RTX 2070 Super and the encoder I use is NVenc.

If you are getting a black screen when you select Display Capture and are using Windows, then this might help (I had the same issue and now it's fixed). You most probably have an additional graphics card (GPU). Windows is sending that GPU's output to OBS by default, even though the Windows Desktop is being rendered on the Integrated Graphics Chip that comes with Intel processors. To fix this, there is a short way and a long way. Short way: Close OBS studio. Right click on its shortcut icon on the desktop, and select "Run with graphics processor", and then "Integrated graphics". If you don't have the icon on the desktop, click on the start menu and find OBS, right click on it and choose "Open file location", now the shortcut icon would be displayed and you can perform the above steps. OBS should run now and the screen should be visible when you select Display Capture. Long way (if "Run with graphics processor" doesn't show up on right clicking the shortcut): 1. Right click on an empty area of the desktop, choose Display Settings 2. Scroll to the very end of the settings page that comes up, choose Graphics Settings 3. You will come to a page where you can set the settings for specific apps, but it's not very clear. Click on Browse. 4. Now you need to find the executable file for OBS. Unless you changed any settings while installing, it should be at C:\Program Files\obs-studio\bin\64bit . Navigate there by choosing C:, then Program Files, then obs-studio, then bin, then 64bit, and finally the actual obs-studio file, click OK 5. Now a dialog should show up allowing you to choose the graphics card you want to use. If this doesn't show up, then click on the OBS Studio button that would have come up under the Browse button of Step 3, and choose Options. 6. In this settings dialog, instead of "Let Windows Decide", choose the "Power Saving" processor. Press Save. 7. It's done. Just close the Settings window. If you had OBS open, close it and start it again. Display capture in OBS should work normally now. I haven't tested if the above works for games (which usually run on high-performance GPU), but it does work for regular screen recording. I found the fix by just searching on KZbin for "OBS Studio Black Screen" and finding these steps on a channel called NobleArcade

That effect where it's showing your desktop showing itself for infinity is called, "video feedback." It actually looks pretty neat on an old picture tube TV with a video camera looking at the TV that it's connected to, as you roll the camera on it's side all as it's looking at the TV that's displaying the live feed from the camera you see all of the infinite images on the TV roll with it. We had some fun doing that in my video production class in college, but this was back before there were programs like OBS, but there were other programs for capturing video on computers, but definitely before there was streaming on the internet, everything back then was still dial-up, so you're talking about upload speeds of 3 to 9 kbps, unless you had a $10,000 T1 connection which would be 1,024 kbps, but not many people had T1, it was mainly for businesses.
