Hello, It is wonderful to listen to all your posts on You Tube. Thank you. I believe you know the palette of colors used by John Yardley. I kindly ask you, if you are able to share it with us or possibly recommend a link that describes it. Thank you. Best regards

Hi! Sorry it has taken me so long to reply. According to the book that I review in this video, Yardley's palette consists of the following colors: Ultramarine Blue, Cobalt Blue, Prussian Blue, Cadmium Yellow, Cadmium Lemon, Cadmium Red Deep, Light Red, Burnt Sienna, Raw Sienna, Burnt Umber, Warm Sepia, Viridian, Winsor Violet, Indian Red, Cerulean Blue Alizarin Crimson and Permanent Rose. Enjoy!!

Excellent review. I have had this book on loan from the library for the last six months, and it is, indeed, a very useful and well-written resource. There are also some good demonstration videos online by John Yardley from APV films, though they are relatively pricey. There is a certain freshness and directness to his work, which appeals to me a lot. Do you happen to know whether John Yardley is still alive? He was born in 1933 so he would be almost 90. Last I heard he was living in the south of England, though I think he may have passed away early in 2021.

I don't know if he is still alive. I actually had that same question myself. I did a little snooping around on the Internet and couldn't find that information. I wanted to email him and thank him for his beautiful art and let him know how it inspires me....but alas I couldn't find a way to do that. If you learn anything definitely, please leave a comment here. I'd love to know.

@@KrisDeBruineStudio The last information about Mr Yardley painting I can find is from the blog, John Haywood Watercolours, where he was demonstrating at the Royal Watercolour Society's annual exhibition at London’s Mall Galleries. This was in 2015. There was also a blog post about his work from 2019 from Watercolour Fanatic, though the author does not know how active Mr Yardley was at the time. There are additionally original paintings I can find that have been sold at various auctions in the UK from 2020, 2021 and 2022. There was an obituary for John Yardley who passed away in 2021 in Norfolk, which could be the artist, though there is no reference to the fact he was an artist. If I recall correctly from one of his books, he and his wife spent most of their lives living in Reigate, a town in Surrey, though given the love so many artists have for Norfolk, they could well have moved between 1996 and 2021 to the area. If I find anything else, I will let you know.

@@Tennishead21 Thanks for all the information. I am assuming by your familiarity with English towns, that you are British. Am I correct? I am from the US, and I highly respect the British Watercolor movement. Artists in the UK have been primarily responsible (in my humble opinion) of raising watercolor to greater prestige as a medium. I also love the work of Trevor Chamberlain and David Curtis who are both contemporaries of John Yardley. Cheers!

I have a question, there are two books by John Yardley, one is from 1996 which is the one you are reviewing and the other is published in 2000, are they the same book or are they different, can you please help me? Very helpful your video, thanks.

Hi. I think they are the same. However, I have never looked at a copy of the 2000 edition, so I can't be certain. I have the hardcover edition - copyright 1996. ISBN: 0715303333
