At 10:10, aufstehen means 'to get up', not 'to wake up' (aufwachen). People can wake up and get up at completely different times... my daughters, for example! The English translation confused me because I recalled that "los, aufstehen" was said in a war film... and the soldier wasn't asking him to wake up, but to get up off the ground. :-)
@LearnGermanOriginal6 жыл бұрын
Yes, you are right! Thanks for pointing out!
@holliesaraswat62414 жыл бұрын
I disagree. Get up and wake up are often used interchangeably in both English and German. Aufstehen means both and is commonly translated as such.
@blushandsky4 жыл бұрын
Maybe it’s a still living stereotype? Germans just get up immediately after waking up? 🤔🤣
@degrind64963 жыл бұрын
@@holliesaraswat6241 In some situations aufstehen can mean "stand up" and not "get up (get out of bed)" in german. I know, it's situational, and you would probably be understood either way, but it makes a difference.
@holliesaraswat62413 жыл бұрын
@@degrind6496 I don't get your point. Yes it also means "stand up," but in totally different contexts. This is pertaining to bed, sleeping, waking.
