When the use of the vowel "epsilon" is taught, the word given in example have alpha+ iota. Vowel shown at the start of the video are in capital while those used in word examples are small. This causes confusion.

These videos are helping me a lot, but I am confused by Παρασκευή which could be written in English letters as Paraskeví. In my understanding the Greek letter B has a V sound, but the last two letters in this Greek word are lowercase ita and lowercase ipsilon,which together make the phonetic I vowel sound so I wrote it as Paraskei. I know I must be wrong, but looking through my study notes from your videos I can't figure out why...

I'm confused by the same thing. Lina, you say υ is pronounced as "ee" in english, but in this word you pronounce it like a "v". Why?
@theapapa4762

The letter υ is pronounced as -ee by itself. However, when paired with α and ε, it becomes a v or f sound, depending on the word. This occurs very often, you will encounter the αυ and ευ combinations very often. Good word examples are αύριο (ávrio=tomorrow), αυτός (aftós=he), ευχαριστώ (efharistó=thank you), Παρασκευή (paraskeví=Friday, also a common female name). If you want to pronounce the two letters separately, you need to put the double dot mark above the υ (διαλυτικά), like this εϋ, αϋ, but this is extremely rare (διαλυτικά are more commonly used in the αι,ει combinations, look them up). Don't be mistaken, the letter combinations εβ,εφ,αβ,αφ also exist. Unfortunately there are no set rules to know if the υ is an f or a v, the only help I can give you is that the word auto is read as afto. It is present in many important words such as αυτοκίνητο (automobile/car), αυτόματος (automatic) etc.

@@theapapa4762 There are rules The «ευ» and «αυ», pronounced ef and af, when the letters κ, π, τ, χ, φ, θ, σ, ξ, ψ follow. «ευ» and «αυ» are pronounced "ev" and "av", when the letters β, γ, δ, ζ, λ, μ, ν, ρ and vowels follow.

That's awesome! I hope you 'll have a great time! I have videos from 100-200! The good news is that with these, you can easily form the rest of the numbers yourself! Watch the videos from 100-200. After that, everything is exactly the same. You replace "εκατόν" with "διακόσια, τριακόσια, τετρακόσια, πεντακόσια, εξακόσια, επτακόσια, οχτακόσια, εννιακόσια" and you're ready!
