In this lesson, you will learn how to divide fractions and interpret the results. We will use pictures to visualize what division of fractions really represents, then we will work out the solution and check the result. In order to divide fractions, we must change the division into multiplication, then multiply by the reciprocal of the bottom fraction. In this way, all fraction division becomes multiplication, which we have already previously mastered and practiced.

You are one heck of a great teacher. I love your style....I think what most teachers miss is they only explain the concept once, then do a bunch of examples without reinforcing the explanation -- which I think is key. This is easily the best explanation of this concept on youtube and beyond. I'm relearning maths as an adult for fun, something I always struggled with, and I can tell your videos are going to be a massive help. Thank you!!!

Sir, you are greatly appreciated. I graduated from a baccalaureate registered nurse course and enjoyed math so much. I took a remedial algebra class that allowed me to come to par with much younger students who had higher ACT scores. In fact, they struggled while I made easy “ A”. Your style of teaching is very easy to follow. Your metaphors and visual aides are great.

Love you videos! As a middle school math teacher, I appreciate the visual support. In the future, I'd recommend that, when simplifying, write out 2/2 (or whatever you are using to simplify). I emphasize to students that this number is equal to 1 which does not affect the value of the fraction. Just a thought.

A thin circular ring, of radius 20cm, is charged, with a uniform charge density(rho). If a small section, of 1cm length, is removed from the ring. Calculate the electric field intensity at the center of the ring.

I think when we are dividing by a fraction, essentially converting it into a whole part and then multiply. 1/2÷1/4 Cross multiply (1×4)/(2×1)=4/2=2.

Sometimes you're simplifying at the end other times you're dividing, how do I know which route to take?

If you have worked the problem all the way through and gotten the answer, you then check to see if the answer can be simplified. Sometimes it can and sometimes it can’t. What do you mean when reference division?
