I realized from watching this when it came out that my one foot jump was like that kids, and it’s like you said I might as well just stand still and jump they were basically the same height. Once I started fixing it I can now dunk on 10 feet about 2-3times per dunk session, so not there just yet for consistency and my form still isn’t where I want it but you guys help me out a ton appreciate it

What I would like to see, is a analysis of very good jumpers back in the days like Jordan, Dominique with his rubber legs or Stacey Augmon. I think they did it all naturally and did not have a "jump coach" I was always impressed how Jordan or Barkley could jump that high from almos every position or step in the game. They just suddenly elevated. Maybe you can give me some insights here

This was the first time I heard any of this breakdown. The 2 foot jumping was basically what is logical, but regarding the one foot im a bit confused. I'm coming from long jumping and even the pros in long jump have knee bend (check out the IAAF biomechanics stats - it has angles between every joint at takeoff and radial speeds etc, pretty cool) to the point their Center of mass is significantly lower. Can you elaborate then what you meant by not bending the knees for one foot jumping? How would I get into the air without the push off from the knee bend? If I were to use the foot as a lever then that's tons of force going into the lower back and hips and sounds like a huge injury risk. Big fan of the channel and thanks for all the great content!
@kevinchang4 жыл бұрын
i have no clue if im right, but this is just a guess. long jumping needs more of that knee bend for a forward push, while dunking a basketball requires you to go up, rather than out. maybe the different forms lie in different goals
@lucascba4 жыл бұрын
Kevin Chang i don’t know if thats right but it definitely make sense
@thomasthetank79494 жыл бұрын
Nir Glazer is long jump, you need to push forward. With basketball, you want the speed to go up. That’s why his back should not be leaning forward and he his knee should not be bent.
@HaroonKhan-wd2dz4 жыл бұрын
Thomas The Tank yes correct leaning forward shifts momentum forward instead of up
@nirglazer59624 жыл бұрын
Long jump has no forward push whatsoever. That's actually the biggest misconseption. You jump completely up. They just have such insane total velocities (9+ m/s) that even after achieving 40+ inches in the air (which is their complete maximum) they have enough leftover on the vector to keep moving forward at high speeds. These guys are in the air for >1 second. That's a complete vertical jump. They physically can't jump any higher no matter how fast they'd be moving so they just manage to perfect the form in order to not lose a lot of that total velocity when they do lift off. Still happens though, for example their penultimate total velocity will be roughly 9.6 m/s and then lift off velocity 9.2 m/s with a horizontal component of ~8 m/s
