Chad Stanton Very nice project. I always enjoy seeing videos where people create completely with their hands. It is very refreshing. I appreciate the other channels out there, but after a while it gets old seeing someone set up their machines and cut, or route, or CNC, or... well you get the point. There is skill there too, but it is just not the same. I am one of those who would love to see more videos of just hand tool projects and a follow-up video of your carving would be awesome.

Very very cool video/project! The hinge used in this project reminds me of how Steve French hand carves his pliers/pivot point. I really am going to try this one and make a cookbook stand, except I'm going to keep the width narrow enough to do ALL that sawing with my bandsaw. Really like this build! Thanks for finding/showing/sharing it to us. Greatly appreciated!

Outstanding foldable design. I like this a lot because it can be stored easily. This would work good as a cookbook rack or tablet holder as well. Lots of cooks using the internet today.

Chad, your video doesn't include a step to saw the gaps between the sections of the hinge. Was that missed in the video editing? Or were you able to "break" those segments by applying a little pressure on the two halves to get it to snap open (time 4:10-4:15)?

One of these days, perhaps. At the moment I can only imagine. I haven't the space nor the tools to do any of these things, but I will one day. The one thing I have always found daunting about woodwork is what wood to use. Could I ask, what did you use for this project? It looks as if it's a fairly soft wood, but could you use hardwoods for this too? Thank you for posting this, and amazing work too.

@TheMurlocKeeper 4 жыл бұрын
Yes. The vikings made these as imprompteau chairs all the time. These guys have just made a smaller version and called it a book stand...which is not accurate. They came oh so close to what I was actually looking for...but never quite made it there. Actual book stands like this are meant to be more , well...even length on both sides. It's meant to support the spine when you open a heavy book and lay it flat, not have it in a propped up position! You're reading it, not displaying it! So close...and yet, so wrong.

Folks, I'm spilling the beans here. Chad is being much too humble. André Jacob Roubo didn't invent that book stand, oh no. Chad used his super secret wooden time machine he invented to go back in time to André's era. He then demonstrated it to a much younger Roubo, who quickly published it in his book.

This is a superb woodworking book I`ve ever read, “Bαzοmο Tdy Plαn” (Google it). Both novice and some seasoned carpenter could gain lots of general information from this reading material. Astonishingly, this book has been my partner whenever I wish to look up woods at areas along with other topics such as restoring and salvaging spots. .

in fact this great art discovered by muslims before 1400 years ago when prophet mohammad came with his islam message and his miracle (The Quran) which is the holy book for muslims .. so ancient muslim people tried to think of how to creat a handle for this book using one type and one piece of a material to apply the (oneness of god) while reading the holy book .. so that was the philosophy of ancient muslims that they used to follow to show the principal of Islam religion with all my respect to other religions
