I'm a 1200 rated and this is gold. Never even thought of it this way. Makes sense though. Thanks a lot for the sick tips Aman!

I'm 1950 and this is gold for me too. You can get to 2000 just by learning to not blunder. The hidden gem in that understanding is that you should linger on "beginner" lessons for as long as possible.

That is some information there. We usually taught to move the bishop in the most advance square, but in the end, the bishop got pushed back later on.

So… what if they can recapture with their bishop? And then their bishop is less optimally placed that it could have been… could you trade there to limit their Knight from jumping in to a good square? 🧐

This tip I already knew, *only* because I've made the mistake so many times before in my own games and have learned from it. Such is the value of playing and analysing my own games!

I love this series. Thank you! I have a question about the Italian game. I notice that Be6 and Be3 moves (as at 8:44) come up a lot in the Italian. It feels like a natural move to trade off our opponent's attacking piece. But it is also their bishop that is on the same color as their center pawn. I thought we normally want to let them keep that one and trade the other bishops. So how to know which rule applies?

@@jasonparker6138 Jokes aside, the position can easily open up with White's d4 or Black's d5. So, both colors of bishops will be good. This means that it's fine to trade. Also, if white takes, we have an easier d5 and out other bishop will be just fine.

Very difficult concept to develop minor pieces to their best squares in the beginning, hard to choose the best ones depending on position

If you start to study openings you’ll notice that they tend to deal with this issue quite well, which is why they exist as “openings” I guess and they can help with getting to the middle game with at least an “equal” position. 🧐 these guys have some great openings tutorials / speed runs if you get curious

I like playing Bg4 with black early against London players, after they play Nf3 but before e6. First, for the psychological satisfaction of watching them pin their own knight to the queen when they play e6. Second, to coax them into playing h3, so when they play Bf4 and I respond with Bd6, I don't have to worry about Bg6 Bxg6 leading to a semi-open h file. And no, I never take the knight, it's pointless.

A little repetitive this time. I think you repeated the main idea, which is not that hard of an idea, approximately ten time-a bit much. BTW, what to do if the other side unpins with a Bishop?
@P.sherman4524 күн бұрын
what about sicilian openings as black where in a lot of line your light square bishop is a problem and u just want to get rid of it. in best cases, we trade bishops, but if they celeverly avoid trading bishops, i would still trade my loght square bishop for a knight.
