I had 3 lessons more than 30 years ago with Rick Smith, before he became well known. He gave me his handwritten notes on what he wanted me to do. The main thing/change was what Alex is talking about here. This concept completely changed my game. Rick kept using the analogy of “skipping a stone on water” That move ensures that you stay down and through the shot. It also creates a move that brings your head/right ear down and rotates right to left behind the ball and extends your arms out and up. Rick kept showing pics of top players making this move and ALWAYS finishing on the outside edge of the right foot (like Hogan, Sevy, Nickalas, Trevino, Morikawa, etc, etc.) This lesson from Alex is pure gold……just skip the stone I’ve been doing it for 30 plus years, I’m 80 and I shot 76 today.

I've literally been working on this on the range tonight!! I always try and see where the ball has gone before I hit it 🤦🏻♂️ also I think that's why I'm fading/slicing the ball because I'm coming out the shot to early......🤔

That alignment stick movement is really clear and hard to do wrong. Best single thing I have found to get the rotation timing by far. Many tell the same thing but this makes me feel it without effort! The 100 yd drive is a great second step too. Thanks very much. The missing puzzle piece for me.
@Kenweng043 жыл бұрын
Been working on this and I think people will find it much easier to hit balls more consistently and compress the ball. Which inevitably leads to more distance, spin to hold greens, and a lower score. Good tips!

Another great video with excellent analogies. Standing up/ early extension also causes fat shots, correct? If so, if someone can comment, what else is a main contributor to fat shots?
@AlexElliottGolf3 жыл бұрын
Hello! Great to hear you love the videos - fat shots could also be caused by not enough rotation and early release of the club Alex
@golfessor26783 жыл бұрын
@@AlexElliottGolf Thank you so much Alex. I had the early release (casting) in my cross hairs along with early extension and hanging back. I never thought about rotation, but it makes sense. I am a student of the game and do not get out that much anymore, but I will never stop trying even at 62. I guess the old adage holds true : you have to lose control to gain control.
