Learn How to Teach a Dog to Fetch and Drop It | Teaching a Dog To Drop and Give

I thought I'd show you how I teach a dog to fetch and drop in this KZbin video. Here, I'm demonstrating with my dog training client's Cavalier how to drop a ball. You can usually teach a dog to drop it without treats if you have two toys that hold the same value to the dog.

As the dog learns how to fetch and return, you can change the drop-it items to different things like the Frisbee. When your dog has an advanced drop it, you can teach your dog to fetch and retrieve objects such as slippers, shoes and even fetch you a beer.

I have a black and tan male Cavalier (just turned one this month) named Ernie whom we are working with to start bringing the ball back, so this video was rather timely! He loves to chase after a toy, just isn't real great about consistently bringing it back. I've been giving him treats and making it a big deal when he does, and he is getting better. :)
