Let's study Japanese with Chrono Trigger for the SNES, a beloved JRPG classic! I'm playing through the game while reading all text out loud and provide information about Japanese I find interesting to teach about or that I myself struggle with. The aim is to have fun while we're studying!
SECOND PART: • Video
This video was recorded from a streamed live session. I'm still experimenting with the format of these videos and greatly appreciate any constructive critism you might have. If you're happy with the format as it is, I would love to hear about that as well.

I currently have Chrono Trigger on the Super Famicom which is WAY cheaper than the US version and I’m currently learning Japanese.

That is a very good reason to learn Japanese, you can get many of the games much cheaper! 😉

@Starman94 How is the Japanese in the Banjo games? I can imagine it being a bit quirky with all the very unique characters found in the game? Despite being a game aimed for children, it wouldn't surprise me if it's a bit tricky to fully understand.

@@Teedyan That I’m not really for sure, I just watch it on KZbin and being in Japanese Grunty’s Furnace of Fun and the Tower of Tragedy would be really hard to get past.

@@starman9458 Ahh, right, didn't even think about the quiz show. That certainly is a literal language barrier 😂

I like a lot what you are doing here friend. Is there a very easy game you would recommend?

Thank you so much for this! How easy are we talking? There is a game for the GBA that I played when I started out many years ago called "Densetsu no Stafy", that game is almost only hiragana and have a good balance between gameplay and dialogue. Final Fantasy 5 is many steps above that, but I would still say that the language used for especially the main story has been very easy to follow so far. Also, I'm planning on doing a channel update for this but I've moved these kind of videos to their own channel, please subscribe if you like it. I'll keep things coming. 😁 kzbin.info/door/D7nqU7NqtwO-j9E5HAmLTw

At what JLPT level would you currently say that your Japanese is at?

I'm probably at N4. I've recently gotten into reading more and it's tough especially if I cant search the kanji easily, but I think it will get easier over time. These videos are motivating and I always learn a few things!

About N4. I passed the N5 last year just to get my feet wet, and I've been studying N4 material since. My study time is very limited, so dense content like what you're putting out is very helpful. Being able to see the text, hear the words, and see context all at the same time makes for faster retention than flipping back and forth between a book and a tear-soaked jiten. Thanks, Teedyan!

@Tsuki_ The moment you get into reading more is when that level will skyrocket as long as you give it a few minutes at least every day. Keep at it! I'm happy to provide motivation with the videos, thanks for letting me know as it motivates me just the same.

@Eradin Hahaha, "tear-soaked jiten", I totally get the feeling behind that part of the sentence. 🤣 Really nice to hear that you've already made progress with the limited amount of study time and have a feel for how the JLPT tests are working. Thank you for letting me know that it helps you out!
