Hi Steve, I was just on your website. I remember a group in the same area teaching Choy Li Fut back in 1998. I think they were called Wu-Tan or Wu-Dan. I am very interested in how people came to learn Choy Li fut. How did you come to learn it?

Greetings, Sifu Willcott , I have a doubt about this form, what's the speed required for it? Slow? fast? Or are there some parts slow and other fast like in Shaolin five animals form? Thank you.
@Choy-Li-Fut-Kung-Fu Жыл бұрын
While it's true that the snake style of Kung Fu is typically slower and the crane style is faster, it's important to note that both styles can benefit from training at different speeds. Training the crane style slow can actually help improve your technique and form, allowing you to execute the moves more accurately and efficiently. This can then translate into greater speed and power when performing the techniques at a faster pace. Similarly, practicing the snake style at a faster pace can help develop your speed and agility, which are important attributes for effective martial arts combat. Ultimately, the key to mastering any Kung Fu style is to practice consistently and with focused attention to detail. Whether you're training slow or fast, it's important to remain disciplined and patient as you develop your skills and techniques over time.

I personally find doing forms slow as a moving meditation to be very beneficial . It enables the practitioner to really feel the subtle aspects of the movements and the transitions between movements. It's also exceptional for harmonizing your breathing with your movement .

We normally teach the hook swords after the Yee Jong. As one is a weapon and the other is a hand form it's best not to look at them in that way.

You're absolutely right! Demonstrating real-world applications with a partner can really bring the techniques to life and show their practicality in self-defense situations. 🐍🕊️ It helps in understanding how the movements of the snake and crane forms in Choy Li Fut can be effectively used against an opponent. Hopefully, future tutorials will include such demonstrations. It adds immense value for learners to see the art in action. 👏🥋 #PracticalApplication #ChoyLiFut

Chin Nau is already a snake hand bud. No need to uncharacteristically raise your elbow that high putting you at a tactical disadvantage. There is a Cantonese word for that exact bad habit. What lineage is this from?
@Choy-Li-Fut-Kung-Fu Жыл бұрын
Joseph, thanks for the unsolicited advice. Please post a video showing the correct elbow height for Chin Nau, it's 'tactical' advantage. What lineage do you think it's from?
@josephsnodgrass146 Жыл бұрын
I have no idea. It doesn’t look anything like your 師父 snake. If the elbow is turned upward you are susceptible to having that arm bridged and then you are going to get your ribs broken. Especially if someone my size hit you. But you’d already know that seeing as though you are a grandmaster right? I wouldn’t dare put up a video of my Chun Nau, I’m just a regular old sifu. You know how i can tell you don’t spar or fight in any significant capacity? Those elbows would have corrected themselves. Because turning your elbows up to that extent for a defensive technique is a common no no for pretty much every Southern Style. Your 師父 doesn’t do that. Actually your 師父 snake is entirely different than this one. I have no idea what lineage it is. What lineage are you telling people it is?
