Correct me if I'm wrong, please. I don't want to know wrong stuff and use Mongolian based on false facts. Вэ/бэ is used when asking about something we don't know about. For example, if I don't know what is in the cup you've just given me, I'll ask "Энэ юу вэ?" And you'll reply with "Энэ бол цай." But байна is used when we know what it is and want the other person to guess or when we can't see it. For example, if you tell me I have something crawling on my back, I'll ask "Энэ юу байна?" But it can also occur as part of the verb. In the sentence "Энэ юу хийж байна?" хийж байна is the Present Continuous form of the verb хийх. That's the explanation from MGL123 KZbin channel.
