I was getting nowhere with this for a couple of years, but then watched an earlier video of yours and got it in a few weeks. Pancake stretch plus partial range was key. Thank you.

Yes! I totally agree that you can work on press to handstand without a handstand. And the benefits for a handstand are big too. Great video as always!

Yeah I’ve had a couple of people in my classes that could press but couldn’t hold a handstand. Great to hear you’re enjoying the videos

this is my plan, to learn press to handstand without knowing how to handstand so i can just gain control through brute force, i feel like trying to just balance is difficult because you can't measure progress.
@PaulTwyman10 ай бұрын
Sounds good, I'd try training both at the same time (balance and Press). This follow along will help to fill some gaps kzbin.info/www/bejne/jIXbdqqvf62MeZY

Another tip (at least helped me a lot!) First master press to headstand! Never think headstands are worthless even if you can do HS. When I started my HS journey, I was able to do a decent headstand, so I first learnt all the basic HS skills (starting with kickup, then tuck jump etc) in headstand. More steady, less moving parts and the distance your hips have to travel is much shorter 🙂 👍
@PaulTwyman2 жыл бұрын
Yes definitely headstands can be very useful

It‘s nice to feel what the actual movement should feel like but other than that it didn‘t help a lot for me, sadly. I can do pike to headstand but am nowhere near any type of press to handstand yet (I‘m gonna change this within this year!).

Hey Paul! Have you tried an eccentric chest to wall? I like them and they helped me more than back to the wall. What's your opinion on them?
@PaulTwyman2 жыл бұрын
Yes I love the Chest to Wall Handstand Press Drill. I include it in my longer tutorials and give it to some of my clients. It’s not great for some as they drop too much in the last half of the movement so they miss the ‘time under tension’ in that section of the pathway.

I have a problem i can do the negative and keep going down fully controlled but the moment my legs angle become less than a 90 degree i start getting some sort of back pain like I can't go any further after couple of days I taught it's because my flexibility the compression strength so I taught i need to ask you
@PaulTwyman Жыл бұрын
That's strange, sounds like you are missing some strength or flexibility at your body is trying to compensate. I would try mimic the movement on the floor etc and see how it feels. Check mobility and other movements. If you have pain get checked by someone in person

@PaulTwyman2 жыл бұрын
Yes the drills are always much easier once you can do the skill. Pick the best progressions for your current level, then slowly progress 👍
