Hi everyone! Let me know if you have any questions about anything we talked about here in the comments below! :)

Not being critical, just sharing some info for you and your viewers: Typical framing in the US is 16" o.c. studs, and roofs are usually 24" . The board at your roof eaves is called a fascia board, and is almost always plumb, not perpendicular to the roof plane. Keep up the good work!

First of all, Thank You for the wonderful information. This is very helpful for new users. I have a question that involves your statements at about 12:15 on the video. You mention that there are a couple of ways to handle "intersecting" objects in Sketchup. Do you happen to have a video that covers these ways? I'm working with come complex intersections and was looking for a way to make those cuts. For instance, do you know of a way to cut one object by making another object the "cutting edge"? Again, your step by step course is fantastic, even for a modeler who's been working with all kinds of similar tools since the mid 80's. Thanks.

Hi Justin, When you rotate the rafter, I didn't get precisely how you rotated it so the top of the rafter sat on top of the ridge. (at the time 9:14 of the video) Can you please explain that.

I also didn't get that part and even with a lot of trying I couldn't figure it out. @TheSketchUpEssentials - Can you help us figure this out?

Hey quick question. I am following along, and when I draw the second rectangle after making the first one a group, the offset tool will not work. Is there any reason why? I'm doing exactly as is being done in the video

At 9:19 when you push pull the rafter, it push pulls the whole thing and not just the bit that's over theta of the ridge?

Awesome video... question, how do you model "big-box store twisted lumber?" LOL.
@stephenowens5375 Жыл бұрын
simple, 6 to 8 scotch whiskeys depending how much warping is required ;)
@timstratton92 жыл бұрын
I believe when you modelled the roof framing you lost the 6,12 slope... you set your guide to the top of the 2x6 to the edge of the wall... but you set the angle to the bottom of the 2x6, thereby lowering the slope. I think you should have drawn the 2x6 upwards, not down. It's not a framing thing... so much as you lost your reference angle thru that process and as a result the entire roof slop is off...

I don t understand why offset tool doesn t work after I make the second rectangle on the first one wich I gruoped. I tried as in video and in many ather ways (in grup or out the group) ending in making an ather rectangle wich I moved on the gruouped one...but that afect the project to his end.

I had the same issue . Traced it back to me drawing the floor (first rectangle) using the Rectangle tool. I figured out If I draw the floor with four line snaps and then Group it (like Justin does in his video) before drawing the second rectangle (using the Rectangle tool) , then the Offset tool works fine on the second rectangle. (I am currently using the free version of Sketchup). Not sure why this makes a difference, but it does, at least with the current version of the free version. .(Seems like the result is four edges and a surface either way - right?!) . Since you posted a month ago you likely figured it out since then, but hope this is helpful for someone else.

I appreciate the video but it would be even more helpful if you actually knew the correct dimensions for framing. For example, 2x4 walls are the standard with studs spaced 16" oc. If you used 2x6 they would be spaced 24" oc.
@Thesketchupessentials11 ай бұрын
You should be able to draw whatever framing you'd like at whatever spacing you want based on the info in the video. It's a modeling tutorial, not a "how to frame a house" tutorial
