You are so detailed and professional in your presentations that if Presonus isn't paying you for these valuable tutorials, they should be!!! Kudos to you for all your hard work!!!

12:22 This is like FL Studio's 'ghost notes'. It's better in Studio One because the colour of the notes can be changed and ghost notes can be viewed from other channels/tracks. At the time of writing this, in FL Studio 12.4, ghost notes can only be viewed from within the same pattern (midi block of notes).

When you press D to duplicate a note or group of notes, how do you adjust the postion it duplicates to. I've noticed sometimes this is a bar or a quarter bar when working on some existing music, but when I create new notes it just creates the duplicate note right after the one being copied. I've tried snap/quantize etc and searched quite a bit on Google but I can't seem top find the answer.

I have this same problem on FL. Generally what I do before duplicating is drag the last note out to where I want the duplicated notes to start then duplicate. Then I just shorten those last notes to wherever I wanted them. I know it's a time draw back but the fact that we are even able to edit a melody in a midi editor now is amazing. 30 years ago that was unheard of. I used to be one of those old school composers who bashed people for using their computers to make music. Until I actually learned to use a computer to make music. Lol Now I'm addicted to it.

Thank you so much for making these videos! All the little tips and tricks are not apparently clear though they're available and this helps a lot!! Now, lot of people commend FL Studio on their Piano roll and Cubase for working on MIDI. As a completely newbie into music production, do you think Studio One has at least as much flexibility in these two areas, if not more, for me to financially commit to this DAW?

Komal, I actually haven't used FL or Cubase for quite a long time so I wouldn't feel comfortable comparing the MIDI capabilities of these other DAWs to S1. You may want to just check out some tutorials for FL and Cubase regarding MIDI and see if they look comparable, or better. Also, you can always check out the trial versions of these DAWs to use them first-hand. Now is definitely a good time to purchase a DAW as they are heavily discounted till the end of the month! Good luck!

Actually, thanks to your videos I went ahead and bought the Artist version. I'm still very new , so didn't feel like committing to the Pro version. I found more detailed Studio One tutorials on KZbin and I feel it's much more clear to use than FL studio which was my previous favourite DAW. May be I'll go pro when Studio One 4 comes out. Thanks so so much for these awesome videos!!

Quanta one last question. Kindly be patient 🙂 I am a beginner and don't know how serious I'll get into music producing BUT the 50% off is very tempting. Very! That probably makes it the cheapest pro version DAW among the popular ones. Not having VST support on the artist version is a big pain in the ass. Do you think you personally miss something from the pro version when you're working on your music? Or is it a full fledged DAW that'll serve me well for some time if I do get into music (irrespective of genre) seriously?
@quantaaudio7 жыл бұрын
There's a lot of variables to consider in your situation. First, do you have a lot of VSTs installed already that you'd like to use? Were you planning on getting more VSTs in the future, if you don't have them now? When it comes to spending ones hard-earned money, I don't like to say too much about that for my subscribers! Just think about those questions above, and also, here is a link to what exactly is included for each version, laid out very clearly, here: www.presonus.com/products/studio-one/compare-versions Lastly, just know that you can purchase an "add-on" for the artist version of S1 that will allow you to use VSTs for $80, here: shop.presonus.com/products/software/studio-one-add-ons/VST-and-AU-and-Rewire-Support This add-on does not appear to be on sale, so this it what you'd be paying at any time you may decide to upgrade.

I wish studio ones piano roll looped like FL's. Having to set loop points in a piano roll is a major pain in the ass. All piano rolls should just automatically loop after the bar containing the last note until notes are entered in the next bar. The only time loop points should have to be set is if you're using a MIDI controller to record notes into the editor. That's probably the only thing keeping me from switching from FL to Studio 1.

What about when using a 3rd party instrument like say a MPC ...How would you transfer the MIDI notes into the Studio One instead of The MPC chasing the Studio One...?
@lizmoss4 жыл бұрын
can you fade a midi track (without lowering the velocity)?
@quantaaudio4 жыл бұрын
You would need to use automation for that. Enter into record and with your mouse, click, hold and drag down the master volume of your VST/instrument and this change in volume will be recorded. This is a very over-simplified description of how to do it, but this is how it can be done. You may want to watch one of my tuts on automation if you need further guidance. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGOmpWyCp7SKZqs kzbin.info/www/bejne/aJ3Oh4KpibGZpsk

LONG TIME REASON USER HERE....LEARNING STUDIO ONE BECAUSE IM BEING FORCED TO. ANYWAY.... SEE AT HOW AROUND 3:47 YOU ADD A NOTE....WHENEVER I DO IT IT ALSO DOES THE SAME ACTION TO THE SECOND REGION. WHY IS THIS/? SO WHENEVER I ADD A NOTE ON THE FIRST REGION IT ADDS TO THE 2ND AS WELL, IN YOUR CASE "PRESCENCE" REGION

Can i pan any of my MIDI note in editor, without using paning of track? I can't find anything about it, help please
@quantaaudio6 жыл бұрын
It all depends on what device you are using. If you are using a VST instrument that has panning as a control on it, somewhere, then you should be able to choose it as a automatable parameter. Describing it in the comment section is a bit difficult, but you'd need to open the editor, and within the parameter automation lane, click on the ellipsis(...), in the window that pops up look for the pan control in the right column and double-click to add it. Alternatively, if the VST device has panning control and it's a Presonus device, just enter in to record mode and move the panning as you'd like. This will automatically creating a panning lane and record your movements.

I am enjoying the tutorials. However, I would like to point out an error. The quantize setting does not determine the length of the notes that you create. It only sets the granularity of the timing adjustment. The note length is determined by the ‘length’ setting to the far left. It is right under the ‘scale’ setting that you went over. Other than that, good stuff. Thanks.
@quantaaudio7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the heads-up, UG.
@quantaaudio7 жыл бұрын
Update! Actually, we're both kinda right on this... There is a "Q" button/icon in the length setting area which is active by default (blue color when active) and this sets the length of all added MIDI notes to match the quantize setting. If disengaged, then as you state, the length setting will then determine each added notes length...
