+Petra P. His pronunciation of "älg" is completely wrong, actually. The letter Ä/ä has the same vowel sound as the vowel sound in "hat", I have no idea why he pronounces it like an A. The other phrases sound correct, though.

Beaah I was under the (disappointing) impression that ‘ä’ and ‘e’ are the same sound in Swedish; is that not the case? Also, what’s the deal with the ‘a’ sound - is it a long [aar] type of sound as found in Norwegian, or a shorter one?
@Beaah
@Beaah 5 жыл бұрын
@@Floral_Green no, it's not the case. Ä and E is different. I think theres videos here on yt that describes it. What do you mean with the 'a' sound? As in the single letter? It's a short sound. Like the English word "ah" sort of.

Agreed. It's way harder to learn a language without feeling like you're speaking with/to a person. It's nice to have someone teaching casually instead of like a robot. I could buy a book and do much more than the other Swedish videos. This guy is offering just what I need.

Listen, and relisten and break down to sounds like little kids here in America are taught. Listen for the phonetic sounds. For instance You're welcome is varsagod, and it sounds like wash a goat. Also, Good bye sounds like Hey door:D hejda . Now the spelling/ writing no help there, but just to speak it just listen for the sounds. Both of these my Swedes approved that I am understandable with my breaking it down for things tactic. Tack means thanks it sounds like tic tack candy.

Erik, thanks so much for making these videos. I have been studying Swedish for about a month now and have a question regarding phonetics. When you say words like "hej", "hej då", "du", "bor", "i", or "fyra", the sound almost sounds like it's coming from the back of your throat. Is this purely an accent? Or is it common in the Swedish language? Should I be practicing pronouncing those words like that? Thanks again!

Did you voice the "g" at the end of "Jag" and the "t" at the end of "det" and other words intentionally or was that for the sake of teaching? Or is it a regional thing? Hello Dávid. You are right, it was for the sake of teaching - extremely clear pronunciation and as it is spelled. However, at least in the following lessons, I should have started to pronounce it as it is pronounced in daily life, the way you're describing. Without g on jag, without t on det, and "är" more pronounced like "e". Good luck learning! Glad you found this channel!

How do you manage to pronounce the "j" and "i" in the throat? I have heard several swedes speak and somehow they pronounce certain vowels and consonants with a kind of guttural/slightly-nasal effect. Some words I've heard this particular pronounciation is with "hej", "ris", "fyra", "gillar" and some others I can't quite recall now. I really want to understand/know how to do that :D

Lotte ily W. Welkom Lotte! Ik leer Zweeds al 5maanden ofso maar het gaat best wel goed. Ik zou vooral NIET beginnen met grammatica, maar gewoon met woorden, zinnen , (letters) en de uitspraak. Dit kan je oefenen door bijvoorbeeld het nieuws (Als video online) na te zeggen, zo herinner je de uitspraak beter. Hej då!

Riana Prins Hoi Riana! Zweeds is natuurlijk ook een prachtig taal! Ik zou eerst beginnen met de cultuur. Eerst daar wat over leren en dat je daarnapas echt met de taal gaat zitten oefenen. En de video's van Erik Elder zijn ook erg handig ;) Veel succes! Hälsningar, Miran.
