In this video I go over the way I make a psytrance bassline, starting with the basic patch setup in the synth, then focusing most of the video on the FX and other techniques I use to ensure a clean bass that doesn't interfere with the kick, and that has the right amount of power and drive for peak night time Psytrance!

Broooooo! Finally! Just starting messing around with synths and psytrance. I’ve watched quite a few tutorials on bass lines and even though being informative, I haven’t been able to replicate anything that sounds good to me. Mainly do to my lack of software and knowledge. However managed to achieve a pretty decent sounding bass watching your vid. Thank you good sir

Hey Dave, late to the party here, but any opinion on using Minimal's Rift distortion or Devastor2 maybe in place of Saturn2? Thanks for the great vid.

Very well put videos, interessting videos with greatly explained info, keep rocking Always learn a lot from other peoples approach Im still far from sounding like professional psy, even though im formulating my own distinctive sound in a way. But still very sloppy at processing, ah well... should watch those videos more often and learn something new

This is a great tutorial, thank you so much! I am currently on the quest to recreate 2000 - 2005 morning full on bass and this hits quite close! Seems like I have to get Trilian. Do you think it is possible to achieve the Silicon Sound type of bass tone from the album Pure Analog with a little tweaking of Trilian or further processing? Or do you have any idea what he might have used on that album?

Great video, enjoyed it and appreciate your opinion on the various topics covered. Quick question: I've heard by other psy artists that making use of multiband devices with more than two bands (eg 3 bands in Saturn or Pro-MB) on the bass channel will significantly phase the bass note waves, making them 'unclean' and harder to phase align with the Kick. What is your opinion on this?
@dave.kabayun
@dave.kabayun Жыл бұрын
You'll just want to make sure you are looking at a scope (like OccularScope) when you are dialing in the crossover points, so you can make sure that the alignment with the kick is correct. Its actually that "uncleanness" that I like, it can really change the character of the bass (and the waveform) rather than just beefing it up. I'm uploading a new video right now where I focus on this specifically...

I think it's safe to say 80-85% psytrance videos are about kick & bass... No wonder the genre sounds all the same, derivative and boring nowadays :(

It makes sense though, it’s a super important part of the music that people spend decades to truly master, and it’s a topic that aspiring producers ask about often 🤷‍♂️

It's dance music, low end is important. You will not get releases or bookings if your K&B is shitty, it is the most obvious issue if you listen to professional quality tracks vs beginner/amateur. In fact most of my released tracks, which had otherwise solid musical ideas, only made the cut for release after I reworked the K&B to meet modern standards/expectations. I like you Artur, but damn you are one of the most whiney people around, you always have something negative to say. If you aren't happy with the status quo, then put the work in to change something, don't just bitch from the backseat :)

Also you are factually incorrect about the imbalance of K&B videos, on this specific channel (where you are directing your criticism), at least. I counted approximately 340 minutes of tutorial content and this 51 minute K&B tutorial therefore makes up 15% of the total content, the literal inverse of the 85% that you claimed otherwise. If you're going to shoot your mouth off, at least have the courtesy to criticise in a meaningful and objective way. Anyway, since YT doesn't (AI may change this in the future) distinguish between positive and negative commentary, I'm sure Kabayun is grateful for the engagement on his content all the same :D

@@dave.kabayun Sorry if you took offense here. My was a general comment and observation. Your video was one of the better one I've seeen on the topic actually, and I see you tackle other topics as well.

It's all good, discussion and debate is encouraged! The surge in derivative but well produced music is definitely an issue that social media algorithms dont help. I'll do my best to not be a part of the problem and to keep topics varied, and at least try to teach things in a unique way when covering the "big" topics like kick/bass.
