I like how the hardest words to pronounce are some of the most basic words in the language XD

Some yes, while some other - not. Colloquially in an informal conversation people used to tell something like zdraste or draste. That is you may just pronounce the word drastic without ending c.

Well, it means quite a tourist attraction. Attraction as the state of mind or physical force are translated to different words. I would rather translate it not attraction, but sight as in sightseeing. Attraction attributed to some sort of activity or force would be притяжение (prityazheniye) in Russian.

When I first started, my Russian teacher was kinda surprised with my pronunciation. Maybe because I've learned Arabic, English, Japanese, and German before starting Russian so my tongue has been trained a lot lol. My native language is Indonesian so I have 5 totally different ways to pronounce things before starting Russian. I once said to my teacher that the way my tongue pronouncing Russian is a mixture of Arabic and German with a hint of made-up French lol. Among my first Russian words, I really love to say карандаш and журнал. Dunno why

the first couple words were definitely hard. and it wasn't surprising to see the Russian "hello" listed. when I started, it was one of the first words I learned and it was a mouthful. Comparatively, pazhalsta (my focus on learning Russian is more about reading and understanding, not so much writing- not yet anyway) I always found really easy. It's interesting to me how in Russia, they use pazhalsta for "please" as well as "you're welcome". Katya's one of my favorite people to watch in videos for learning Russian. She's like having one of your friends as a teacher.
@MaRsw1
@MaRsw1 8 жыл бұрын
+veteranJMacfan The Germans use the word "Bitte" in the same way! In French, we differenciate "please" and "you're welcome", however some Belgians use the same word "s'il-vous-plaît" to say both.

I heard foreigners speaking correctly (grammatically) in Russian, but with a really heavy accent while trying to pronounce some words. Pronunciation is hard for non-Slavic speakers :)

In Russian you barely recognize a person's place of "born and bred" but there are a few accents you can momentarily get: 1. Southern/Ukrainian (almost same, 'cause Ukraine was always Russia, kind of provincial/countryside accent); 2. Northern accent (North to Moscow/not the North of Russia); 3. Caucasian accent (very funny accent); 4. Baltic/All foreigners(not Russian from Baltic) accent. That is all. Other than that you can recognize the people from low social level, not from the area. This girl sounds grew out of Russia or such low class accent. The nicest accents you can find in St. Peter-burg or a bit south of Moscow like Kaluga. That's it. I speak the perfect Russian.

There are 2 factors that make the russian words hard to pronounce, specially to latin languages and to english: a) very long words and b) certain combination of consonants which are very uncommon to us...usually a vowel is preceded or followed by one consonant and maximum by 2. This does not happens in slavic languages.
