I'm a beginner, but after just two days with this indicator, I'm loving it and find it useful to clarify whether buyers or sellers are dominating across say 3 timeframes when other indicators are not agreeing so much. Yes, you have to remember to ignore the direction of a steep ADX line and notice more so it's angle. Yes it lags noticeably sometimes. I'm finding it reliable most of the time.

I was having a rough time with testing my strategy with price action only as the basis of taking a trade then I added ADX today.. I saw while backtesting the accuracy improved.. It is a tough indicator to understand. I think it gets misinterpreted all the time. At first (in the 90's), I avoided it too. But, after spending 3-5 years truly studying it, I realized the power.

Yes. Depends on the type but it can always help reduce a list of stocks to the ones showing the most strength.

Yes, absolutely. You can leave the settings the same. However, if there is a sizable morning gap, the ADX will need time to adjust and get back inline.

Thanks. I like to use a 1 to 5/6 ratio with my method. So, 30 min/5 min works well in an active market. 15/3 min works too but only for something that trades like water. The lower you go, the more volume you need. My preference is 60/10 min. It works better than 60/15 since you get more signals. If you like the 15 min chart, 78 min works nicely and gives you 5 equal length bars instead of 6 1/2 for 60 min. For stocks, I like monthly, weekly, daily, hourly, 10 min, 2 min. But, lots of choices and I have used them all over the years.

Hello Joe, Excellent video and your book. One question I have is, say we are using weekly and daily charts then do we need to consider a buy (assuming +DMI is above -DMI) only when ADX is above 25 in both weekly and daily charts? What if only 1 chart shows ADX above 25.

I actually like looking for when the weekly is above 25 and the daily is below 25. This often is a correction in an ongoing uptrend and a good time to start watching for a trigger. Or, the other way around works too. Low ADX weekly and strong ADX daily.
