Hi Phil!. One question, where it is possible to find the single handle for size 6000?. I hate double handle, and size 8000 seems too big for barbel fishing.. what do you think about this?. Best regards from Italy :)
@AnglingDirectTV2 ай бұрын
Well spotted 👀 I swapped my double handles with the handles from the 8000 size that a friend bought at the same time. The 6000 & 8000 are the same size reel body, the different is the 8000 has more line capacity (deeper spool) and the single handle. The 8000 would be fine for barbel fishing 👌 Regards Phil,

Hello Phil Are the bait boppers designed to only open when they hit bottom , or like other spods do they also open when hitting the surface ? Thanks mate Jason
@AnglingDirectTV3 ай бұрын
Hello Jason, The Boppers will only open when they hit the bottom. Perfect for deep fast rivers like the Trent 👌 Regards Phil,

Which run rings were you using? Looks like they come with a sleeve.

Hi Phil, another good video but do have a question im sure you can help with! Ive been getting into river fishing a bit over the last year and last few weeks had some success on the Severn but dont feel im optimising my fishing due to my casting as i dont think my lead and hookbait end up where i want them. Im casting say 2/3rds across the river into a steady flow and i feel the lead down to the bottom but by the time i put it on the rest and look up its settled about 20 foot downstream 😄 it doesnt appear the flow has pulled it towards me and the lead holds bottom once settled so its big enough - what am i doing wrong? I do let some line out once the lead hits the bottom so is it potentially a bow in the line giving the impression the lead has moved when it maybe hasnt? Apologies for the essay 😁

Hi Leem25, I don't think you are doing too much wrong. It can be quite deceptive on fast flowing rivers such as the Severn. Due to the bow in the line it may look like your lead hasn't settled in the right place but it may not be far off? Like I said in this video, if you can find nice features on your own bank close in it is so much easier to cast, bait up and fish neatly 👌 Good luck on the Severn, it's a mega river 💪 Phil,

@@AnglingDirectTV thanks Phil. It's a strange section as the margin closest to where you can fish is basically a still water atm and the only luck I've had there is with bream. I have been catching so I'm thinking you're right and it's deceptive! Thanks for replying

This is definitely off topic but concerns barbel. I fish a small, snaggy river with some good barbel. I own barbel rods from 1.5 lbs to 3 lbs from Korum, Daiwa and Shimano, and all of them are tip action to varying degrees. This is the opposite of what I require for hit and hold tactics, as the tip is quickly overwhelmed as the barbel makes for the nearest snag, while the rest of the rod is underpowered or too beefy. The result is snagged fish, or torn mouths. The only rod that works perfectly is my 30 year old Silstar 2 lb carp rod. This cheap rod is very long in the tooth, with a horrible foam handle and nasty reel fittings, but the action is spot on - a 90 degree arc from butt to tip ring - which acts as a big spring against a running fish. I'm happy to spend good money on a true through action, modern rod, but can't find anything that matches those requirements. Any advice?

Hi borderlands6606, I've been very pleased with the Advanta twin tip rods 2.25/2.75lb tc. I know exactly what you mean regarding many modern rods not having a through action. Give the Advanta rods a look, I use the 2.25lb tc top section 90% of the time. Powerful enough to cast heavy weights with PVA bags attached, yet the blank absorbs the lunges of a hard fighting barbel. www.anglingdirect.co.uk/advanta-barbel-twin-tip-fishing-rod?

I've used many specialist and Avon rods. And the one that suits my needs the most, similar to you is actually the Advanta specimen range from Angling Direct, no joke I prefer it over Daiwa Powermesh, Fox Royale, Drennan Series 7 etc

@@J_D_Adama Interesting, I was looking at the Advanta 2 lb Specimen rod today. It has double-leg rings throughout which I like, but Minima style which I have never tried. Will check it out.

@@borderlands6606 I favour the shorter 11ft 1.25 Specimen one, come with Avon and feeder tips. For £39 I can't get over it really, I've used it float fishing for Roach and Rudd, Double figure Bream, Tench and carp. I'd go have a look at the local shop. Big name brands and costs aside I have not found one fish any better 🤔
@borderlands66062 ай бұрын
@@J_D_Adama It sounds like my Korum Allrounder 1.1 lb. Landed a 12 lb pike last week that swallowed a perch I was about to net. Did the job but less than ideal. I need something more powerful to stop barbel heading for the fallen trees.

What stretch of the Trent was this?

It’s the Tidal and I’d say it looks like Collingham, further downstream from Cromwell. But I might be wrong 🤷🏻♂️
