Tyler, your videos are very informative. Your fast delivery style makes is somewhat difficult to catch everything you are saying and I find myself rewinding. I have had two Choppers literally fall apart during use; however, I have never had a problem with the Whopper Plopper. Skirts and trailers will get damaged, but the actual buzzbait is a durable lure.

Years ago i got a big lure from my dad. I believe it was called Lucky 13, probably 10" in length. First time i used it, i chucked it across the river, probably 40 feet. It crashed hard to the water. Let it sit probably for 20 or 25 seconds. Made 1 turn on my reel and a big splashing and swirl slammed it. Hit with so much force i thought it was going to rip the pole from my hand. I got maybe 4 or 5 turns on it and line went slack. Reeled in the line and lure/fish completetly gone. Im assuming it was a very large northern pike. Pretty sure i landed it right on top of its head or close to it. Whatever it was, it was larte enough to go after that lure. It was the last time and only time i ever got to use that lure. The fish became my nemesis after that. Never got anything close to being big enough to go after that lure.

On my local lake, Castaic in Southern California, the top water is going full steam but my baits of past aren’t producing much (pop r’s, 2 1/2- 3 inch swim baits, chug bugs and whopper plopper). This last weekend, I was able to get a clear view of the size of the shad that largemouth, smallmouth and stripers were boiling on, couldn’t have been more than an inch. What’s your thoughts of instead of trying to match the hatch that I don’t have anything that small, to go with something bigger like pencil popper, hair jig, spook or glide baits? Do you ever throw a popping frog in open water? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Btw, I can’t thank you enough for your content, you’re helping more fishermen than you realize!

I want to ask you about the buzz bait retrieval, I was fishing a farm pond yesterday and 95% of my hits on the buzzbait out of like 6 fish were caught when I let the buzzbait go below the surface and burn it to get back to the top, with only one fish hitting on the top. Is this just because I was fishing a less pressured farm pond or can this be used as technique? Indiana located
@TylersReelFishing4 ай бұрын
Sounds to me like you would’ve crushed them on a spinner bait😂 Buzzbait is meant to be on top. You are free to retrieve any lure in whatever way you like, but underneath the water is not where that is designed to be thrown.

Yessir, you can throw a treble hooked bait on mono, or a buzzbait/plopper since they are moving back to you and the fish kind of hooks itself. A frog though, takes a strong hookset from a stationary position. Braid helps with that
