Plug your question into Google, there's a lot to cover. Basically you're gonna have to decide which communication standard you wish to use for your FPV system moving forwards. Depending on the chosen controller it may be easy or difficult to change protocols.

I recently got the Avata 2 and I was very efficient from day one using the motion remote controller that came with the drone. I even got some very decent footage that was used in an industrial video. That's since the cinematic flights have nothing to do with ACRO and freestyle manual flights and the motion controller is perfect for this purpose if you know what you're doing. When I saw what people can do with the remote controller 3 in manual mode, I was intrigued and I wanted in. I got the controller 3 and started to fly in liftoff. As you all can understand my flights lasted less than a minute every single time. After I found your series, I got way better by following your line of learning curve and your instructions. I understand that it's 20% your guidance and 80% practicing the moves. BUT! this 20% is the absolute total because it points to the correct direction of learning to fly FPV in manual mode. You definitely deserve a small patreon support and that's what I'm going to do in a couple of days when I get my pay check.

I took my first real flight out today after a few hours in the sim. The first thing I immediately noticed that people may find worth bearing in mind. The skills transferred surprisingly well from sim to drone, especially using the same controller. Scale absolutely does not! There's a huge visual difference between the sim on your screen and the fish eye lens inches from your face. Now obviously there was always going to be a difference, and I was prepared for that. But just HOW different it is, is massive! Getting a true sense of size, distance, and even general position in space is much more difficult with the real thing. I'd say I got fairly used to it after probably 15-20 mins, but it's definitely something to keep in mind and take that first flight real slow until you get a feel for the visuals.

I'm 12 hours in velocidrone. My first advice would be to learn float and start and turning in both directions. Most importantly watch Joshua's video about rates and throttle control. Adjusting the rotation rates of your quad around your axis and the curve of the punch of your throttle, will change significantly your ability to fly the quad (for me it was going from 3/10 to 7-8/10). Note that flying is tiring mentally and on your thumbs, you need o say focus at all time or you'll crash. Ifyou like your playstation you can fly thumbing, otherwise I would advice pinching your sticks with your thumb and index finger. Focus on your vanishing point, not on he horizon or on the ground! Lastly, take note of the physical feeling of making a good turn, a good move or a good lap and try to renact it to understand what you did right. (Maybe it doesn't make sense, but it works for me;I literally fly with my stomach)😄

Today's the day for me! I finally got around to ordering everything for my first FPV drone. I built up an old KK2 powered drone before, but didn't put that many hours into it, and never flew fpv. Finally going to commit and learn properly. Ordered all new stuff since mine is well out of date. Got myself a Radiomaster Pocket and a copy of Liftoff. Mr. Bardwell, thank you for your guide. We have a "climate" here in Sweden that allowes us to fly 2 to 5 days a year. I have allways hated sim flying. And learned on tinywhoops insterad, but after seting the sim up acc. to your guide, it is possible to fly the simulator. I have been flying the Tanq, Geprc mk5, Happymodel Crux35, Happymodel crux3, flywoo firefly 2s, flywoo 1s, mobula7 and mobula6. But the sim was terrible and unflyable, could not go thru the opening in the barn, while i could do it in real life. Now i can train in the sim❤

I started out on a simulator for over three months before I flew even a tiny whoop. A BetaFPV Cetus pro kit is where I started. After I was ready to get off the simulator and fly the Cetus pro, the experience was freaking unreal. The first time i armed the drone, I took off into the sky, and was flying around. I think the only reason that I came down crashing after like over 30 seconds was because I couldn’t believe I was actually doing it. Get on the simulator first and learn for at least 30 days. Especially if you think you are going to just do it for like 20 hours like some dude on KZbin and go grab a 5 inch and just take off. You’re just gonna take off with that 5 inch and lose it really quickly. Either by destroying it we’re just having it fly away and you can’t find it.

Hi Joshua, with my experience as a newbie in this hobby, I recommend you make this tutorial explaining everything for a person who knows nothing of fpv drones. like in drone electronics, there are four separate systems (VTX, FC , RX, motor controller) with their own firmware. and in the controller, there is the opentx software and the firmware for the TX. I didn't know anything of this and I struggled for days to pair my boxer to the meteor 7, and the issue was that the version for the TX and RX wasent the same.

This is a godsend ! I was fascinated by FPV when it tsarting to gain popularity in germany ( where I am from ) mid last decade, then kindof lost sight . Idk what restoked the intereset recently - I just started thinking "Whoa YES ! I want to !" again a few weeks ago . Then pricetag became apparent - bummer . Next thing I know : this playlist . So now, wayyyyy before having to deepdive into EU regulations, learning important information and concepts of RC control and drone flying in general ( I have no clue and no technical background ), and spending loads of money...I can get into it at the cost of a controller . Excellent video. The best one that I have seen about learning to fly in ACRO mode. It is nice to have someone explain how the quad responds to the stick movements which is not intuitive. That said, once a person understands how the quad will behave, then it all comes together. Learn easy, Learn simple, just learn to keep the thing in the air and flying.

Great video as always! For what it's worth, you should probably have left the FPS at 60. Usually these things default to the refresh rate of your monitor, and setting the FPS higher will generate extra frames that you will never see.

22:40 😂 That's so true for the first 2 hours! I found that if I try to think 2-3 seconds ahead and anticipate where my velocity and acceleration would take me I do a lot better. It's basically a sine wave that you're trying to make mimic a flat line.

I started on DRL on x box. It works well on x box if you don’t have pc. The controls are more sensitive that the controller/radio you’ll buy and calibrate later on. DRL is better on Xbox than liftoff.

Awesome video and also a great idea for a video playlist series! A good real life alternative to a simulator is a Tinywhoop also. I have a Happy Model Mobula7 1S Tinywhoop, and its basically indestructible this thing lol. Its not super fast but it teaches good throttle control because you're always using 0% to 100% on the smaller Tinywhoop, where as a big 5" drone you only need like 15% throttle to take off and hover even on 6s. But the Tinywhoop 1s is basically all plastic with nice name brand fpv parts and works great on Analog. Plus the 1s batteries are actually super easy to charge for a Lipo, just buy the appropriate charger and youre almost set with that. But yeah i highly recommend buying the Transmitter first and play the Simulator for sure! I'm talking about once youre into it for a few weeks and want to actually go fly, but your most likely still not ready for powerful big fpv drone..

Just started learning fpv with my avata 2. Thought I could do it without any simulator practice (instantly crashed twice). Even starting off in the sim I was crashing constantly. Took a few hours to get any reasonable control but couldn't accurately turn or do any of the gates without attempting numerous times or crashing every other gate, after about 20hrs can finally do all gates with only a couple of mistakes albeit slowly. Problem with the sim is you take much bigger risks than you should in real life. Feel like I'm ready now to try my avata again but probably should be putting a lot more hours in to the sim. It Really is weird how it feels hopeless to start with but then gradually your brain adapts and finds the controller movements that make the drone move like you want it to.

I have some comments to it: 1) When I created model for use as a joystick, I also turn off all radio in that model, so it doesn't discharge the battery that fast. Also it is good to assign one aux channel to some button that can be used as reset button in some simulators directly on the radio controller. 2) It is not good to disable V-sync, if you don't have Freesync or G-sync monitor, because you will have picture tearing. Yes, responsiveness will increase but not sure if it worths the tearing. You should have V-sync enabled, so it matches your monitor refresh rate, as 60 FPS if ok, if you don't have faster display. Also decreasing the quality as it was said in the video is not needed, if you have faster PC. This simulator is not that demanding, I play maxed out in 4K at about 100FPS for instance...

Fantastic 1st timers(me) video! I learned a ton! One note on the FPS in the sim. If you monitor is only 60hz (most common) then trying to get the in game fps to 120 or higher is kinda pointless. Good to get that number a little above your monitor spec just so there is some buffer in case it drops during play, but not worry beyond that.

Starting with a sim is a good idea but I think you could buy small non-toy grade small framed drone for flying indoors, those don't really break when crashed.

Nice, thanks, I used a drone for building surveying the marvic Air2 and the Air2s but think crawing into unstable roof spaces is not for me anymore, went through one years ago and found my head and my neck were not the best things to use for a break, effective but painful lol, thanks for uploading the content. will be looking for a good FPV drone for building surveying just viewing not mapping at this stage and for going into bando's lol as we have loads of empty factories in Stoke on Trent in the UK.

Question - I'm new to the drone world and bought a DJI Mavic 3 classic and DJI RC controller but I started watching some of your videos and love the FPV. I want to start learning to fly FPV on a simulator and watch all your learn to fly FPV for beginners tutorials on lift-off. So, can I use my DJI controller or buy another one? Also, what would you recommend for goggles? I probably will never be racing FPV but enjoy more of the cinematic aspect and just for fun. Any other enlightenment would be appreciated.

If you have ELRS you can use BLE Joystick for a bluetooth joystick connection. If your computer has a decent Bluetooth antenna you'll have just as good connection as wired. Possibly as good as the radio connection, but I don't have a way to measure latency. I at least don't notice a significant delay.

It definitely does add a delay. I did some tests some time ago comparing the USB link to an FrSky Rx plus F4 FC RF arrangement. The latency was around 15mS longer on average, hard to be precise because it varies all the time due to the asynchronous nature of the various processes. Over racing laps, this tended to add around 1 second to an approx 25 second lap. I didn't notice an actual delay as such, just that it all felt sloppier. Then I went to ELRS and BLE joystick. Didn't actually do measurements on this (or haven't yet), but the lap time difference seems to be around 0.5 seconds plus. So, I concluded that BLE joystick was somewhere in the middle. Whether the delay is significant, as you put it, probably depends on what you are doing.

Joshua, I don't have a PC right now to verify if it still works... But there was a way to set switches from the transmitter to a few actions on Liftoff. Functions like reset and so on... Either way, what I remember is that you needed to use chs 9, 10, 11 and so on... I don't remember the menu name where you set those functions, but it's the same where you can change the keyboard keys to activate them. Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

Hi Joshua. I have just purchased the Radiomaster Boxer 4 in 1 as per your recommendation along with a Fatshark Dominator V 3 set of goggles as I want to start learning to fly FPV using Lift Off Sim. In the instructions for the Boxer it states not to use the radio unless the internal RF module is switched on as it can damage the radio if it is off. How do I find the internal RF switch to turn it on? There is nothing in the instructions to tell me how to do this! Thanks in advance.

Thanks a lot. I'm at 18:20 and don't know why, but moving only the throttle my drone drifts away backward, not forward. I've played with calibration and settings on my Radiomaster pocket, but couldn't fix it.

Hi againnn 🙂 it’s been a long while since I’ve been flying. I still got the Qx7 since 2017 and I’m wondering if getting the Jumper T20 is an upgrade or side grade.

Ione man's opinion here but I would say it is a side stepwise deal. I think the QX7 comes with Open TX, but like the TBS Mambo it has a "version" of Open TX. Other than that do you like your gimbals? If so that is a big one out of the way. The QX7 has enough buttons and switches so if that works for you your good to go. In favor of the T-20 is, it is new, fresh, feels really great in the hands, the negatives - the T-20's screen is very small, I am not a fan of how they implemented the module bay, it feels great but perhaps a bit plasticy... I really like the T-20, I have considered getting one myself. But I think I will ensure up going for the RadioMaster Boxer - probably one of if not the best radios you can buy today. It has good gimbals but if you wanted the very best then good news - you can install AG-01 gimbals ( I don't think that would be necessary but it's good to know they work on the Boxer...). The Boxer can take 5000 mah battery which can be easily swapped if needed. I have TBS Mambo and I love it - in many ways it looks and feels like the Boxer, it can't load Edge TX though which sucks cause they said they would be upgrading the radio to do so but never did - BOO! Anyway, it really does not matter that much. The Mambo has full size gimbals but somehow they feel just a bit scaled down - some people have had "jittering" on the sticks and they are tricky to calibrate. Anyway, hope that was helpful. Cheers

@@garyfornow542 thanks for the info! I got my Qx7 flashed to the latest EdgeTx and it has the FrSky budget Hall gimbals on them since way back but they’re nice. I want the T-20 mainly for its smaller size but I was afraid of “amazing” Jumper QC’s 😅 The T-20 can take 5000mah too but in 21700 cells.

What about the radiomaster TX12 mkii? Seems like a good middle ground between the pocket and boxer.
