HI Aurora. I'm using a weighted 'dance hoop'. They are specially made for hula hoop dancing so weigh approx 300-500grams which is significantly heavier than regular kids toy hoops, but it is not the same as the very heavy/chunky fitness hoops that you find in a lot of regular fitness stores. I hope that makes sense! You need to get these from specialised hoop makers. This is my store and the hoop I'm using is a 'Body Rock' hoop: spinjoy.com.au/products/body-rock-dance-hula-hoops I ship worldwide from Australia, but if you want to shop local, I would recommend searching "dance hula hoop" in your area and having a chat with the store owner about a size they recommend based on your height and waist circumference. Hope that helps! Caitlyn xo

Absolutely fabulous! Thank you for the very clear techniques. I have added a couple of them to the basic ones I had from my childhood. I was 69 yesterday and I picked up a hoop a month ago, the spin came back easily and its still a lot of fun!!
Thank you for posting so many helpful videos! I've come across several "how to hula hoop" teachers on KZbin, but by far your guide is the best. Some people say to lock your knees, don't lock your knees, twist your back when you push to start, etc. Lots of misinformation or risky techniques that could lead to injury. Regardless, your approach comes across the healthiest, happiest, and most achievable too. Thank you! 💛

@@joannedavidson9194 2 minutes is a LONG time well done!! If you're finding your hoop is still kinda angling in one particular direction, it indicates that you are pushing more into that particular side. You'll find this with a forward back motion more often. If you're feeling more comfortable with spinning now (which it definitely sounds like you are), try now to really focus on getting the circling action happening where you're pushing even pressure around the whole circle, less into one particular direction. Hope that makes sense!

Thank you. I was finding it would spin a maximum of one time before I needed to start moving glad I saw this now it goes about 3x. Need to try and work on the getting it straight. Also try and get it a bit higher as has a habit of touching my right hip a bit too much for my liking. 😮
@SpinJoyHoopDance3 жыл бұрын
that's great progress and yes, getting it nice and high on your waist is the best place to control it. If you are finding after a while you're still favouring one hip or noticing bruising in one particular spot of your body, a good thing to focus on is evenly pushing in the other direction. If you're favouring the right hip, try to think about equal force for the push when it comes around to the left side as well. Eventually you'll be pushing evenly in a circular spiral the whole way around, but it can take a little bit of time. Have fun!!

Small children should be ok with kids toys hula hoops. But children can definitely use larger hoops, it's just about finding a good size that they are capable of lifting off the ground and spinning effectively. Really small children mostly struggle with being strong enough to push the hoop hard enough.

Heyy! I've tried for like a week but theres something weird that keeps happening, my hoop starts turning diagonally like downwards in the front and upwards in the back, is it me or my hoops are broken 🤣🤣 I started with the 80 cm one cause I though it was big enough lol
@SpinJoyHoopDance6 ай бұрын
Hey there Giulia! The hoop usually angles for two reasons. 1) you may not be standing up straight. Even a slight bend forward (e.g if you're looking down at the hoop) and 2) if you're not pushing evenly in a circle. Like the power of your push is more towards one point. Hope that makes a bit of sense. It's a little difficult to explain through text. I'd also suggest that 80cm is a pretty small adult size hoop if you're starting out. I generally use 80cm for teaching primary school age children. Most average size women would start with a 100cm diameter hoop. If you're quite petite, a 95cm hoop. Hope that helps and good luck with it! Feel free to send me a video of your hooping via DM on my Instagram if you'd like me to take a proper look at what's going on. Hey can you teach how to increase speed
@SpinJoyHoopDance2 жыл бұрын
Ok so....in this video here, I show the technique to push harder and faster if the hoop is starting to fall down. It's good to train this technique to save the hoop. HOWEVER, if you are making really big movements with your body/big exaggerated pushes that throw your alignment out, its not great technique. What I suggest is pushing the hoop hard and practicing very tight fast pushes to keep the hoop spinning fast. Then when you start to fall out of the speed and slow down, re-push the hoop fast again and keep going. This method will have you only training the tight fast pushes you want to be achieving, not falling out of alignment to rescue your hoop. It will probably be pretty exhausting, it should be high energy. After doing this a few times in your practice sessions, your body will be trained to keep these tight fast pushes going more easily. I hope that makes sense!! If you need a demonstration let me know and I can do it over on my instagram account for you xox

Hoops for this kind of activity are generally made of polypropylene of HDPE plastic and you'll be wanting to get them from a specialty dance hoop maker. You can generally find them online close to your area. My shop is www.spinjoy.com.au I'm based in Sydney Australia but ship worldwide. You want your beginner hoop to be roughly belly button height (or bigger if you carry more weight around your mid-section) and to weight 350-500grams (depending on its size).

Does this help in reducing belly fat??
@SpinJoyHoopDance3 жыл бұрын
Hi Georgina! It's a little bit of a complex response rather than a straight "yes" or "no". Hula hoop dance is an amazing form of aerobic exercise which does help burn calories and reduce fat. With all aerobic exercise, where a person will lose weight and in what order, is completely down to their genetics. For example, you may reduce fat first from your arms and thighs and lose belly fat last. It's purely down to the individual. With that being said, hula hooping on your waist does increase muscle tone in that area, which can also give the visual illusion of a smaller more toned waist. So long answer short, yes - hula hooping does reduce belly fat. Hope that makes sense!

How much kilogram the hola hoop for ladies?
@SpinJoyHoopDance3 жыл бұрын
Around 350 - 500grams. For hoop dance you don't want to get the very very heavy hoops. 350g is still considered "weighted" compared to most store bough hula hoops (kids toys) or light weight off-body hula hoops

@@chrizalievsvlog3482 yes, if the heavier hoop isn't causing you any pain or discomfort, its totally fine for waist hooping. Better to be too heavy than too light!

thank you for this!! any tips for knee pain...other than taking a break? thx :)
@SpinJoyHoopDance3 жыл бұрын
Hi Cheryl, as a disclaimer, I'm not a registered health professional. So if you are concerned about pain, the best person to talk to is always your doctor or physio. That being said, with hula hooping, if you are experiencing knee pain, you may be circling excessively through your legs and knees. I'd need to have a look at a video of your technique to be sure, but often this can be a cause of knee pain. The motion should be predominantly coming from your mid-body. This can be tricky in the early stages while your technique is still refining. I would suggest seeing if the one foot in front/forward pack technique helps ease your knee pain. If you'd like to send me a video on instagram DM, I can have a look and see whats happening. instagram.com/_spinjoy_/

Which is the best hula hoop to buy as there are sooo many to choose from?
@SpinJoyHoopDance3 жыл бұрын
A weighed dance hula hoop (300-500grams) they will vary country to country on what they are made from. From a speciality hula hoop maker. Size will depend on your height and waist circumference. These are the ones all my beginners use for learning in my beginners course spinjoy.com.au/products/body-rock-dance-hula-hoops

Hi . Loved your tips. I think my loop is small in size compared to yours. So is that the reason i am not able to do it well. What is the best size ? Any particular measurement for adults.
@SpinJoyHoopDance3 жыл бұрын
Hi Sarita, yep, small hoop is usually the biggest issue for adults trying to learn. As a general guide, I give most women in my beginner classes hula hoops 95-100cm diameter. If you carry more weight around the middle, you can go up bigger than this, for example a 110cm hoop or bigger. If you're unsure, let me know your height and dress/shirt size and i'll tell you what i think. As a guide, I am 173cm tall/5'8 and a size 10AU - someone my size would start on a 100cm hoop. spinjoy.com.au/shop/hula-hoops/body-rock-dance-hula-hoops/untaped-classic-hula-hoops/

@SpinJoyHoopDance Жыл бұрын
Hello lovely. I would start with a 95cm OD dance hoop. I'd recommend getting it from a dance hoop supplier as this will be better than the weighed fitness hoops that can be too cumbersome to do tricks with. If you can't find any locally I sell them on my website shipped from Australia. spinjoy.com.au/collections/hula-hoops/products/body-rock-dance-hula-hoops

Hi Ankuu, it's normal to need to move your body with big forceful pushes while you are learning. It takes a bit of time for your muscles to learn how to do tight spirals with minimal movement from the rest of your body. If you need some more help, feel free to email me a video of your hula hooping at info@spinjoy.com.au and I can have a look for you!

Can u plz suggest is it safe to practice everyday.. does any warmup and lower back stretches required after the practice... after 2 hrs of lunch can it be practiced?... plz guide... it would be helpful
@SpinJoyHoopDance3 жыл бұрын
Hi Gayastri, just as a disclaimer, I'm not a medical professional, so any advice that I give here is all my own person opinion based on my own experiences. I would suggest that you treat hula hooping like any other exercise regimen you participate in. While it is safe to practice daily, as with all exercises, it is important to listen to your body and take rest days as needed. While I practice hula hooping on occasions for multiple hours at a time, I do believe specifically doing a 2 hour session every day may possibly be overdoing it. Depending though on the types of movements you're practicing, mixing up off-body tricks with on-body drills so you are not over exercising any one particular body part. Waist hooping on its own is a good warm up for your body, as a light aerobic exercise to get blood flowing and warm up your muscles. For after a workout I would definitely focus on taking time to stretch, particularly your lower back (quadratus lumborum muscles) as these can take a load when your abdominals are tired and these will be the source of generalised lower back aches. I hope that helps!! But as I mentioned, i'm not a doctor, so if you have any specific medical concerns, i'd definitely go speak to your healthcare professional xx

Is a weighted hoop the right kind to get started with? 😌
@SpinJoyHoopDance2 жыл бұрын
I would look for a "dance hoop" they're specially made for this kind of thing by hoop makers. While they are weighted, if you search weighted hoop in Google, you'll probably find the ones that are super chunky and weight 600g - 1kg. A weighted dance hoop is from 300-500grams. So heavy but not too crazy. Hope that helps. I sell them on my website but you can probably also find someone local to you who makes them spinjoy.com.au/products/dance-and-fitness-hula-hoops

@@SpinJoyHoopDance Appreciate this advice 😌. I'm trying with a weighted one I found on amazon for quite cheap and it feels rather bulky and awkward- and I don't love that it comes in segments. I'll try this - thank you 🙏🏼
