👏. The split of drawing on the paper and you stood next to it is helpful as shows how loosely you're holding the pencil. And the video as a whole, yay! Again exactly what I need. Thank you for sharing x

From Ohio. Bingo, you hit it! You are pretty average with the pencil, exceptional with the brush. I normally skip the drawing part of the video and start when you pick up your brush. IMHO you are an exceptional teacher. You paint fast and do a good job explaining your mental process in creating good art. Well done.

Thank you so much 😊 I can be better with the pencil, but because many (like you) skip the drawing stage, I try to shorten that part 😉

I liked the different camera angle, that was very good idea. I would like to see that again please. The painting was lovely, however I felt that the man and dog on the right, disappeared into the wall they were in front of. I had trouble even seeing the dog, and once you darkened the man's trousers and added the dark jacket, he almost vanished entirely. The rest of the painting was perfect and it was easy to see what it was all about. I think adding the people was a good choice, as they gave it life and added interest. I really love your work, and I really enjoy your videos. Your ideas for paintings are always interesting and you use a really good variety of images to paint which keeps it interesting. You are my favourite watercolour artist. I save your videos and watch them again. They are wonderful and really helpful in showing us how to make great art. Thank you Liron.

Thank you so much, I really appreciate that ^_^ About the person on the right - not sure it was the right move, but compositionally speaking I felt like I had to merge him and the dog with the wall on the right, and kind of push them aside. But there may have been better ways of doing that, as you say (: I'm also very happy you like the second angle - it's going to be like that for the next painting video as well! (;

I am amazed at how dark your colours seemed when you applied them, and how much nicer the picture was with exaggerated colours. And you casually draw human figures when I'm still struggling to get basic proportions right. I can see what years of practice and study can do. Thanks for taking the time to demonstrate this beautiful image for us.
@LironYan5 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much ^_^ You are correct - this is simply years of practice and repetition. I am still working my people out. I have a lot to improve in that realm, when it comes to simplifying the figures.

Another fascinating tutorial. Thank you for telling all the steps along the way and what you're going for. I love seeing the colors you choose and your explanation of what you're trying to achieve becomes clearer and clearer as you go along. I love the way you build up the washes. Well done! Please keep the sketching part in your videos. And I love the additional camera.

Liron, Thank you so much for this video. I actually live where your reference photo was taken. I find it very difficult to make my paintings of such a vast landscape more "personal" and relatable. I never thought about adding a couple of vague figures into them to ground them a bit better. I will give that a try!

Liron, regarding ultramarine not always dark enough. I' started to use Paynes Gray which has a blue bias when I need a darker version. I mix it with the ultramarine and even the purples and it really helps. Regarding the back ridge, I agree with you that perhaps it should be graded down a bit since it's so far in the distance. I learn something with every video !!!!! Thanks, Tzipora

Watching these lessons has helped me understand my colours in relation to the reference. I usually try and attempt to create the the exact colours so that its a reflection of the reference, whereas here you are showing us how to use colour temperature and value in relation to the reference and it works so well! I'll have to give this a go! Thanks :)
@LironYan5 жыл бұрын
Happy this helped you in that way! I used to do that too, and I find it incredibly boring 😉🎨 So now I use whatever color best describes my impression, or the temperature I “feel”

Amazing! I’m nowhere near my supplies, but I’m going to try and follow this later today! I love that you add figures, something a lot of people literally avoid. It always looks like you have no paint left 🙃

Liron Yanconsky I failed this so bad. I needed to use two things 2. My good paper and 2. Patience ! I had a ton of issues lifting my colors back up trying to darken things, it was going well until I realized my darks were too light and then the water monster came out in me lol 😂 the only thing I liked was my figure blobs... it’s my first time making people in a scene lol I always skip them lessons in every failure, right?

After seeing snippets on Instagram I enjoyed the ‘real time vid’. Initially the 2 camera angles & the reference photo, especially in the early drawing stages were a bit busy, overall I found it good. I could see how much you elevate your board when you use the watercolours. I don’t have ds watercolours, I have an French ultramarine (Holbein), what do you suggest as substitutes for the red & yellow? Enjoyable as always, thank you ☺️
@carolatchley37975 жыл бұрын
To be honest, Liron, I didn't even notice that you used two cameras to film this. I was so caught up in your drawing, painting and all of your comments as you worked out the painting. I must say you make it look easy to paint loosely. I tried the blue vase with sunflowers and mine turned out nothing like yours! Still, I'm going to try this one too. I do have one question--where was the reference photo taken?

I so enjoyed this video. This is the style I like to paint. I am amazed how your palette still looks "recognizable" even after you add, blue, then red, then yellow, then some blue etc.. mine usually becomes mud.. :( - I will try to duplicate this painting.
@LironYan5 жыл бұрын
That's amazing, I'm so happy to hear! thank you 😊🙏🏼 One tip to avoid mud is to mix less on the palette, and use single paints directly on paper. The subtle mixing of yellow and blue on the paper will read very well as green. And it makes the work so much more interesting!

I tried this one again today and stuck to also only 3 colors. BUT, I didn't have the yellow and red that you used, so I used Primary Yellow (WN) and Cadm.red (Grumbacher) and I didn't like the colors too much. I noticed you use the DS Perylene red a lot. What would be a good substitute for that? if any?

I like the new set-up with the 2 cameras. I enjoyed your quick sketch and improvisation of the scene. I enjoy painting southwest U.S. desert scenes, and I use a lot of Winsor and Newton Indian Red, Ultramarine Violet, and Daniel Smith Hansa Yellow. I like how quickly your figures come together. Mine sill come out like blobs. I will keep practicing. Thanks for the video.

Thank you so much ^_^ And these are all beautiful colors! My people are also somewhat blob-ish (; I have a lot of room for improvement.

Don't short-change the drawing stage. It's the basis for the artwork and where you're making lots of decisions. So many seem to believe that you can paint without being able to draw and thus don't 'waste' their time trying to learn it.
@LironYan5 жыл бұрын
I agree. I’m trying to shorten it because people seem to have a longer attention span when it comes to the painting stage, rather than the drawing stage... I hope to find the right balance, because I do want to SHOW it (:

Aaron Blaise brought me on a brilliant idea when was asking him if he knows a wireless hair dryer for pleine-aire painting, he proposed me simply: What about using a fan ? nothing to do with this video, but i thought on it when you didn`t use one....
@LironYan5 жыл бұрын
That's something I've been thinking of getting lately haha. Usually I have a nice spot of direct light in the apartment, that really helps the paintings dry. But the last couple of have been gloomy so that could be a great solution. Thank you (:
